How can I create a playlist that plays trailers only?

I have a folder on my server of movie trailers. Some are for individual films, and some are compilations of trailers. During the Halloween season, I love putting scary film trailers on in the background while I go about my day. So I created a trailer playlist and put them all in there. Not only does it not play them one after the other, it plays the entire FILM and not the trailer. So I have 2 questions:

  1. Is it possible to have trailer files that Plex doesn’t link up to the film itself? I tried amending the file name with TRAILER to see if that helps, but Plex is still too smart and links the trailer up with the film. So I end up with a playlist of full movies and not trailers.
  2. How can I a playlist to play continuously without a break between items?

I thought of moving my trailer folder to television shows, as at least it would play there one trailer after another, and would perhaps not recognize the trailers as films-- would that work?

Create a library of the type “Other videos”.
Then point it to your trailers folder only.
You then can play this whole library on shuffle.

And then could I create playlists within it that would play through automatically?

I would love to do this without creating a new library, but I guess it’s the only option.

You play the library directly, without creating a playlist.
Here is the button in the web app:

Depending in the Plex client type, you can activate ‘Repeat’ after starting playback.

Thanks! So basically there’s no way to do this without creating a new library?

I don’t think so, because trailers are normally treated as “extras” of their associated main movie and cannot be added to playlists etc.

By creating the separate library, you are making the trailer to be the “main” items.
