How can I force a duplicate recording?

Last night my recording of NOS4A2 completed, but failed. For some reason the audio is completely incorrect, as if it recorded audio from another show entirely. This rarely happens, plex DVR has been working well for me for many months now.

But the episode is re-airing tonight at 3:00 AM, so I will just re-record it. But no, arrrgh! It seems that all my efforts to schedule this single recording are ignored. I think that Plex’s recording history is convinced that it already recorded S01E02 and refuses to allow me to re-record it.

Does anyone know what to do? I have deleted the old, bad recording and I “optimized database” and “cleaned bundles” but all attempts to schedule a single recording tonight are ignored. How can I completely purge the recording history DB?

I am currently having the same issue with Fear the Walking Dead. I had a power outage last night and it is proving impossible to record the re-airing of Episode 2.

you may need to change “airings” setting;

https://app.plex.tv/desktop# > recordings > on right side click the show > change ‘airing’ dropdown to new and repeat

Thanks @TeknoJunky, good idea, but I already tried that. Tonight’s 3:00AM repeat is ignored because the same episode was recorded last night. For some reason the DVR logic refuses to record a repeat if it already recorded the episode in the recent past (last 14 days?)

Also, just to hammer on this again - having a full MANUAL recording option (channel+time+duration) would also work around this problem.

Yes, I actually deleted the recording from my server using Linux CLI, then I moved my NOS4A2 library folder out of my library and did the “plex dance” as they call it. I told plex to rescan my library without any NOS4A2 in it. Still cannot record tonight’s 3:00 AM repeat, whether I try as a single recording or series with new and repeat.

This does not have anything to do with plex library management as far as I can tell. I think it is something with Plex DVR recording history that prevents re-recording.

did you try cancelling the recording, then scheduling the show again as a new recording?

Yes, I tried multiple times to delete the scheduled recording and reinstate it as a single recording or a series. All attempts failed to acknowledge the 3:00AM showing of NOS4A2 as a future recording.

I ended up completely uninstalling and deleting plex (rm /var/lib/plexmediaserver). Then I re-installed, configured the DVR and recorded the 3:00 AM showing without errors.
