I'm fairly new to plex. I've added several pic galleries with sub folders of pictures. I'd like to be able to easily trigger a slide show of the entire gallery containing all the sub folders as well. It seems I can only choose one folder at a time for a slideshow.
For instance, say I have a pic gallery (folder) of all my vacations. And inside that folder there's a folder of my mountain trip, a folder of my beach trip, etc... I'd like to view a random slideshow of all my vacation picts without having to combine the contents into one folder thereby loosing my organization.
Any ideas? Or can this just not yet be available?
I'm aware one can add a universal tag to every pic then sort by that tag but there are just too many pictures to do that I think.
I don’t use pictures with plex media server personally but when I add TV shows or movies sub folders with content add without a hitch. If this is a PMS limitation you may find this better to be properly posted in a different topic like PMS for Mac. Are you using the latest PMS for OS X? Are you adding the main parent picture folder to PMS where all your pictures are located in?
Yes to latest version of PMS. When I add a folder, you can navigate through all the sub folders on the appletv but when initiating a slideshow it only plays the Picts within the given folder. Never Picts within a sub.
The PMS xml only returns the list of photos for the current folder you are viewing, not the sub folders, therefore the aTV is only able to create a slideshow from those photos. I guess code could be created to recurse through the sub folders and add the photos to the parents xml, but that would be a lot of effort for very little gain
As a side note, even PMS’s Web Interface doesn’t have this feature, clicking shuffle on a folder will only shuffle the images in that folder and not the sub folders.
Thanks Rock Star for your input. So what might you suggest be my best way of viewing a slideshow with multiple subfolders? I guess I could drop all the pictures into on large folder. I would lose the organization but Plex would only be dealing with one area. Or maybe move to iPhoto and just airplay it.
...you should also be able to use the iPhoto channel. This would give you access to all your iPhoto library, including albums. I have no idea how it works with the new Photos App, though.
