Sorting Photos by Folder

Hello,

First things first, my set up info:

Server Version: 1.10.1.4602
Server running on: 2014 Mac Mini (Running: OSX 1.10.1.4602)
Storage: Files stored on a WD My Cloud connected directly to my Mac mini via Gigabit Ethernet.

I’m looking for some help with regards to viewing my photos by folder in same folder structure as on the WD network drive.

If I connect to my Plex server on Safari using the IP address (Direct connection) I can view my photos as I want (Screenshot below):

This is great!

However, If I view the photos from any other device; LG TV, iOS, even if I view them on the same mac(Safari) thats running the server(But log in to https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/ as opposed to IP address i.e “Indirect”) The photos are displayed in all forms. 3 primary folders are shown, the folders in them are also shown, and then every image in the folders are also shown, all on one screen.(Screenshot below):

This is extremely annoying as I have tons of archived photos in a lovely organised folder structure. Seems plex can’t mirror this in any other connection type other than direct.

Any ideas? I appreciate any help on this as I have spent hours scouring the internet to no avail. Even some similar posts from 2015 don’t seem to help.

I have the same issue, on all devices. Haven’t been able to find any fix. I can sort videos normally, but not photos.

Hi guys!

The keys are:
main-folders
sub-folders
time-stamp

example 1:
2017-12-24 Christmas
… next folder…

example 2:
create an main-folder: vacation
create sub-folders: United States
create foto-folder: 2017-07-19 United States
…

That should work for pictures and Videos

BTW:
Within folders you can rename single files, too

I habe just retried those settings once again and it is not working. Very strange cause it worked.

I use a different login for TV etc that way it’s only looking a folder I give it access to, speeds it up. If I want rest on the tv I swap login to mine.

I’ve also just added a folder the photos where I’ve done posters in Powerpoint and then told the folder to use these to help find folder better and I’m happy it works ok. Just edit wording and save as that.

Having a similar issue with Plex app for android using the latest plex server and Android app version as of this date.

All our photos are arranged into dated sub-folders of a parent folder added to a photos library with a description for ease of management across a range of platforms, eg “Operation Photos” > “2011-01-01 Operation Solar Stella” and yet there are no folders displayed in photos libraries that we can identify when selecting the folder view option. In fact, all that happens is every single photo is displayed in dated order.
