Photo slideshow shows all subfolders as well

Hi there,

I just started archiving my photos on Plex. Unfortunately there is a “problem”, where I don’t know if I messed something up, or Plex just works like that.

My Photo folders are like this:

2016
│ ├ 2016.08.04 Vacation
│ │ ‎‎ └ Original Files
│ ├ 2016.09.03 Birthday
│ │ └ Original JPG
│ │ └ Video Files
│ ├ 2016.12.25 Christmas
│ │ └ Original Files
2017
│ ├2017.01.05 Event
│ │ └ Original Files

So, In every event folder there are all the edited files from that day/event in the root. In its subfolders I have all of the other footage (raw, unedited, unused, video files and so on).It all shows up correctly in Plex, but when I click on the first image in the “root” folder of an event and click “next”, it shows me the same photo from the unedited folder, or whatever is next in the unedited folder (I guess it shows all of the file names in order with all of the subfolders…)

So, if in the “root” folder of an event there are the images 001-edited and 006-edited, it will show me 002, 003, 004 and so on from the unedited subfolder in between.

Is that normal? Am I doing something wrong?

I know that there is the .plexignore solution to hide the subfolders, but I want them on Plex too, just not in the slideshow of the main (edited) root folder of an event.

Thanks a lot in advance for your support.

What Plex client are you using? And are you looking at the timeline view? Under the library view, folders should appear as folders and you wouldn’t see the photos until you enter the folder. Timeline is by date so it is possible your edited versions end up with the same date as the original so they appear next to each other. The folder structure is not used when looking at the timeline.

Hello and thanks a lot for your Support.
This problem occurs in library mode, but in my opinion it shows the slideshow as if I was in Timeline mode.

This happens on all of my devices (Windows, Edge, Android, FireTV) . This is why I thought this is probably a Problem on the Server.

When I first created that library, I made the mistake of renaming the root folder (in plex, not in the actual files) while it was searching. Since this messed it up a bit, I removed everything, did the Plex Dance and added the library again from scratch. But the problem has still been there. And i just saw, that this happens an older photo library that have been in plex for years as well. (I never noticed it, since the other library barely has any subfolders) so this is on all Plex, not just this library.

This is an example of one folder. The subfolder “Alle Dateien” contains multiple subfolders with all of the raw material that I want on Plex, but not in the slideshow of the parent folder.

That’s strange. I’m not able to reproduce that. For me, the slideshow stays in the folder I’m looking at. It doesn’t look in subfolders or the parent. Can you check in Plex Web to see if it does the same?

If it does, can you use the Android app and do the exact same steps in your video, then get me the android log.

I checked Plex Web in Microsoft Edge and the same thing happens.

I just redid the Android steps (Just as in the video, but in the logs I started at the main screen of the App and first navigated to the Library “Sonstige Fotos”, then the Folder “P Fotos”, then “2019”. From here all the steps are exactly the same as in the video.)

Photo Log.txt (27.5 KB)

I hope this helps. Thanks a lot!

Hello again,
I don’t know if the Log provided the information that were needed, but I just tried something else: I copied a random file from one of the subfolders into the main folder of the library. Its name is “IMG_4543_edited” and when I click on next or previous it does not go by date, but by name. It shows me all of the “IMG_4544” next from all of the subfolders in alphabetical order. First “IMG_4544” from 2016, then another “IMG_4544” from 2019 and so on.

I don’t know if this helps finding a solution, but I thought I’d try something to find out more.

Thanks again a lot for your help.

Hello @anon18523487
Thanks again for your support. Do the log files give any information about the problem?
Thanks a lot.
