How can I increase the volume? (Plex app & computer are already at maximum)

Server Version#: 1.19.2.2737
Player Version#: 1.9.0.1203-00f2b4d9

I have speakers connected to the headphone jack of my Mac mini. The sound on my computer is set to maximum as is the volume slider in the Plex app, however, the audio output is still too low. Is there a way to boost the sound above 100%?

Use VLC it will do the job

That defeats the purpose of using Plex.

Well you can use in the audio settings of Handbrake, called Gain. I have found 10 is a good setting.

It the source file not Plex, ok.

I know it is not an issue with Plex. I am asking whether it is possible to increase the output volume of the Plex app above 100%. I didn’t inquire whether there is another application I could use or whether I should re-encode my video library.

Is it possible that you only have 2 speakers, but Plex somehow “thinks” you have a 5.1 system? Because that usually leads to very low dialog volume in L+R, since the dialog is located in the Center channel in a 5.1 mix.

How would I verify this?

If you can tolerate the 10-foot UI of Plex on your Mac, you can add a compressor to Plex Media Player.

N.B.: “Plex for Mac” is not “Plex Media Player”

You are correct, I’ve posted this question in the wrong forum. I’m using Plex for Mac, not Plex Media Player.

I removed the PMP tag from this thread.

I am not a Mac user myself. I think there might be a sound configuration on the system level of some sort, where you can set your speaker configuration.

Thank you for your replies. I’ve tried third-party audio boosters, but without any success. I suspect that Plex might circumvent the system’s audio processor.

Ok too bad then…

In the player settings: Multi-Channel Audio Boost. This should turn it up for for you.
