Is there a way to BOOST the VOLUME?

I can barely hear a thing.

In another post someone stated to go to full screen mode, then click on your username then under the Settings menu go to > Audio > “Normalize Downmixed Volume”

But for me this doesn’t exist (I have a newer version perhaps?)

Under Settings I only have:
General
Remote Access
Agents
Library
Plugins
Network
Transcoder
Languages
DLNA
Scheduled Tasks
Extras

There is no Audio option that I can see. All I want to do is to be able to hear what I’m playing.

Is there anyone with any ideas?

I played with all my setting and I ended up buying a sound bar

The other users referred to the Plex Media Player. If you talk about that one too, then it seems you’re not using the actual fullscreen/tv mode

You were right Tom. I didn’t know I had to be in TV mode first. Thanks.

BUT! Even though the Normalize Downmixed Volume is ticked. The problem remains, and its still way too quiet.

In Windows Media Player I can go into the graphic equaliser and boost from there. In VLC I can increase the volume way beyond 100%

Is there no other way that ACTUALLY makes it louder? Or am I forced to either buy a Soundbar or uninstall Plex and go back to Windows Media Player?

Thanks

How is your hardware configuration?
Are you using the inbuilt (stereo) speakers of a tv,
or the speakers of your laptop
or …

Are you using HDMI passthrough to let an AVR do the decoding of the surround sound?

What is the actual sound codec and channel configuration of a typical file which you’re having trouble with?
Plex XML info

Thanks OttoKerner,

Laptop speakers. I just need some volume ‘overdrive’ button

Windows laptop?
They sometimes have already an option in their sound driver software to amplify the output.
It may look like this in the properties of the audio driver:
Windows_compressor_loudness

If all else fails, use this: (works only in full screen mode, unfortunately)

Ooooh!

Well done OttoKerner, the Loudness Equalization did the trick. Thanks!

Windows 10
Control Panel > Sounds (select speakers and then click Properties) > Enhancements

You might wanna disable this for listening to music, though.
Otherwise you may get an effect that older ppl may know from the automatic recording levelling of cheap tape decks…

New kid here, a question to add to this discussion.
I have Plex media server on Synology NAS and use different machines to use plex media player .
NAS->Intel NUC->avr yamaha rx-v2067 via hdmi and after that hdmi to tv.
While using plex player over lenovo 5400 laptop and roku express sound was good and strong.
Since I use player on NUC sound is more silenced and have to volume up receiver significantly.
When use movie directly on NUC by windos media player sounds is normal and strong.

How to repair it?

make sure the volume is turned to 100% in PMP itself, it may not be

play a video then press + key on the keyboard to increase the volume

Thanks.I will try it tommorow

With a new PMP installation, HDMI-passthrough is not enabled by default.
Set PMP into TV mode, then pick your user avatar, Settings, Audio, output type=HDMI
Then tick all the sound formats below which your AVR can decode.

I tried but i have no specific seting inside audio. Use plex media plaer on win 10,Intel NUC

This is layout prior to settings:

This is when I activate what say is plex media player

When you are on this screen, go right with your cursor key.
Onto ‘Device’
Press Enter
Select your HDMI port with the cursor keys and confirm the selection with Enter
Then go up to ‘Device Type’, press Enter on it.
Select HDMI with the cursor keys and confirm the selection with Enter.

What does this screen look like afterwards?

Under device its HDMI now.
Under device type it only offered LGtv Intel.
It oppened other options which I confirmed (exclusive mode didnt)

Thank you very much,I ll try to tweak it now but sound is much more powerfull

The manual of your AVR should tell you which of the ‘Passhtrough’ options you can check. Check all those surround sound formats the AVR can decode.

Thank you.great and fast support
