Due to another Internet provider that uses CGNAT, I am working on unlocking my PMS on Qnap with Tailscale so that PlexAmp and the Plex App can be used outside my LAN with a good data speed. During the setup of this, I ran into such problems that I had to perform a complete reinstallation and restore of Plexdata on my Qnap. Fortunately, Snapshot is enabled and I was able to restore the situation with the data from a day ago.
In the end, that went well, except for the fact that PMS constantly indicates that my server is unreachable and keeps searching. I also received this message during the aforementioned setup to unlock PMS with Tailscale, which was the cause of all the problems. In the meantime, Plex does ‘see’ the server (with the same name as before). So it apparently appears twice. How can I safely remove the previous version of the server? Do I have to adjust Preferences.xml for that? And if so, what then?
By the way, unlocking PMS on my QNAP with Tailscale still hasn’t worked. Unlocking the Qnap itself has and that works great; tips regarding PMS are also welcome!
Hi ChuckPa, thanks for your quick response! I see 4 with the same name. The oldest is from a year ago and the other servers are from a day ago (2X) and one from 14 hours ago. Can I keep only the one from 14 hours ago and delete the other 3? Will I keep the current syncs and shares that I have back since my reinstall and datarestore? Or is there another way to check which server is currently active?
Hi ChuckPa, since the reinstallation of PMS on my Qnap and especially the data restore has caused me quite a bit of work, I have postponed removing the servers until this weekend. Because all 4 servers have the same name, I do not want to risk removing the active server so that I have to reinstall and restore again.
When I just looked in Plex at the server dashboard, I see that the ‘dead’ server has disappeared and the constant attempts to connect have also disappeared.! I only see my server with an orange check mark, a lock and “remote” as a caption. If I then go to https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/devices/pms, I still see 4 servers, the most recent of which is now 2 hours ago (instead of the 14 hours I told you last week). I have no idea how that happens. Perhaps the active server is being woken up from sleep mode and that this time (2 hours ago) is displayed??
Since the constant reconnection is no longer an issue and I want to avoid the risk of reinstallation and data restoration, I will no longer delete any servers (hoping that the “age” of the 3 “dead” servers will increase over time and I will be absolutely certain that I can safely delete them. If, in your opinion as an expert, this is unwise, please let me know.
My apologies in advance for continuing to bother you with a seemingly manageable problem.
