How can I restrict movies by label

I can’t believe that its not straight forward to do something like this.

After I created a user I went to the “Restrictions” tab and the only thing I can do is to allow movies by rating or labels!! What about restricting by label ?! I just want to restrict a couple of movie by label! That’s it. Any new movie should be allowed by default unless I add a label to restrict it.

One of the solutions I found is create a separate library for the restricted movies and restrict this library!
That’s not a solution for my use case! its a workaround.
I still want to be able to list all the movies using the main user account without having to switch libraries.

I have exactly the same problem, I just want to restrict a handful of movies and the LABEL mechanism seems perfect for the job

@beltrancd, There is a simple solution to this, and after I found it out (I was in your shoes at first, too) it made a world of difference. You’re looking for SHARING LABELS.

You can restrict user access to ONLY HAVE ACCESS TO SPECIFIC LABELS/RATINGS. You can’t restrict by label, you’re actually enabling by label/rating.

To set up LABELS:

  • Log into your Plex server in your browser.

  • highlight all the movies you want to share a keyword (in my instance it was appropriate movies for “kid” and “teen”).

  • click on “pencil” to edit details of that highlighted group

  • Click on “SHARING”

  • Add keyword of your choosing.

  • Go to Settings/Server/Users/Restrictions and add all the keywords they’re ALLOWED to access.

  • Done.

This is incredibly helpful.
A tip if you’re applying labels to multiple files, say in a collection… select the first video, then hold shift and click the last video. This will select many files (in browser) and allow you to apply the sharing tag to all. This is handy for getting all those “G-rated” movies into a collection or applying a sharing label to them.
(I ended up creating collections before I discovered that “Sharing Tags” are different than “Collection Tags” - so user be warned. You can also share a “collection” by going into the collection and applying the sharing tag to the collection (but it won’t cascade those permissions to the files within the collection, oddly enough).
