How can I use Plex to view my friend's movie collection?

My good friend uses Plex. He has tons of movies on his server and wants to share those movies with me. So I downloaded the Plex app to my iPad, setup an account with Plex, and accepted my friend’s invitation to view his media content. And that’s as far as I got. He’s listed under the Friends section of the app, however, I can’t see anything on his server. Nothing! I don’t even know where to view his movies. Hate to admit this, but I have no idea what I’m doing wrong.

On a side note, I have not installed the Plex Media Server, and that’s because 1.) I have no media to share, and 2.) I don’t have a computer that’s always on. All I want to be able to do with Plex is view and watch my friend’s movies. That’s it. I don’t want to install a media server because I have nothing to share (I don’t collect movies or photos or whatnot.) I just want to use Plex as a client to watch my friend’s extensive movie collection. Can someone please explain to me why I’m not able to make this happen? Something tells me I just don’t quite get how Plex works and I’m missing something very important in its use. Any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

If you can’t access his shared server, then most likely there is a problem with his remote access setup. Talk to your friend about it, see if others can access his server.

Sounds like your friend just sent you an invite without specifying what you have access to. See this article, https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201105738-Create-a-New-Share. He may have missed the part on Selecting the Server.

Thank you for the quick responses. Both of you were right; the problem was on my friend’s end. He got the problem corrected and now I’m golden! Movies are coming to my iPad like a gift from heaven. Love Plex!
