How di I get Plex to recognize the TMDB TV Shows

I have a question on this. I have been with Plex for a long time now and I was able to do Movies for TMDB and TV Shows for the TVDB but how would I write it if I want my TV Shows to be picked up through TMDB?? I see my show in TMDB. I will then write it like it shows same way I would do movies but Plex never finds it even with my settings correct. How do I do this or can I ?!? For give me if there already is a topic out there. Please Help. I always wanted to do this but I could never figure it out…

Thank You!

Plex Documentation → Your Media
→ Naming & Organizing TV Shows
→ Naming & Organizing Movies

  1. You must be running PMS 1.22.3 or later

  2. You must be using the Plex TV Series agent and scanner.
Edit the library, choose Advanced, to verify the selected agent/scanner.

  3. Follow the Plex docs on adding the TVDB/TMDB IDs to TV shows
    Ex: /TV Shows/Show_Name (year) {tmdb-xxxxx}/Season 01/Show_Name (year) s01e01.ext

If you’ve a show or shows where this does not work, please provide specific examples so others can try to duplicate and assist.

You should name your files the same way you would for all TV show agents.

The current Plex TV Show agent pulls metadata from TVDB, TMDB, and IMDb so it should find your show. At the show level you can click “advanced” and tell it to follow TVDB or TMDB episode ordering though.

Thanks for your answer but im talking about The Movie Database not The TV Data Base. The Move Data Base Lists TV Shows as well. How would you write it as a tv show and pull from The Movie Data Base.

Hmm ok never thought it did that since it says Plex TV. I thought it automatically pulled from your own posters and background or The TV Data Base and Plex Movies It would pull from the Movie Data Base. I know it gives you an option to do the thumps up thing through the IMDB, Rottin Tomatoes and etc.

What are you trying to achieve?

What is not working correctly?

Please provide a specific example.

For TV shows you can use either the TMDB or TVDB ID to help identify the show (as shown in my example and in the documentation).

However, the ID is used only to help Plex identify the show. It does not tell Plex Media Server from which source to retrieve metadata.

Plex pulls metadata from multiple sources, combines it together, and stores it on their own server(s).

When you add a movie or show to your server, it pulls the combined metadata from the plex.tv host, not directly from IMDB/TMDB/TVDB.

Note that the episode sort order (ex: TMDB Aired vs TVDB DVD) is completely separate from which ID is used to identify the show.

You can set the ordering at both the library and show levels.

Library Level

  1. Edit the Library
  2. Select Advanced
  3. Scroll to Episode ordering
  4. Choose TheTVDB or The Movie Database.

Show Level

  1. Edit the Show (pencil icon; show level, not season or episode)
  2. Select Advanced
  3. Scroll down to Episode ordering
  4. Choose Library Default / The Movie Database (Aired) / TheTVDB (Aired) / TheTVDB (DVD) / TheTVDB (Absolute)

Is there a way so put gag reels and etc with it sowhing up with ehat you name it like The Movie Data Base. I know The TVDB is strick on what they call specials. I name mine say S00E01 - Gag Reel will it pick up and with the name. I dont like depending on The TVDB. The Movie DB when it comes to extras you can do what wver you want I like this but your kinda restricted on The TVDB. Is there a work around how it can be added so it can be picked up.

The best solution is to use the naming as listed on TVDB for Season 0. Plex picks that up and lists them accordingly.

You can use fake episode numbers. For example, list the gag reel as s00e101. However, Plex will simply show it as episode 101, not named “gag reel.”

Another alternative is to use the various folders for extras - featurettes, interviews, behind the scenes, etc. Choose the Your Media link above, then the document for Local Files under the TV naming section.

Exactly. Thats what i get. So if i just put the name and put it in one of those folders listed like i would for say a movie extra but for a tv extra under Plex tv it will pick up and have the Title say gag?

Yes.

Perfect I tried it and it works. Thank you.

I put for example.

Friends (2004)/Scenes/Season 2 - Friends of Friends (Brook Shields)

Just like the movie database no different.

Thanks again!!
