How do I disable autoplay on my server

I have just started watching TV shows from my Plex server and discovered an annoying ‘feature’. Like Netflix and Prime, Plex decides that I’m not done watching TV so it queues up another episode. As infuriating as it is with Netflix, I don’t have control over their servers and they don’t allow me to disable it.

I searched for a way to shut it off, but on this forum, I haven’t been able to find a way to just disable it for all clients and all media. There has been a bit of complaining by users and promises from Plex about being able to do something about it ‘soon’, but I haven’t seen anything deifinitive. I am running Plex Server on a Synology NAS. I never want to autoplay anything. If I change my mind, there are always playlists.

How do I disable autoplay completely? Barring that, can I set the number of episodes to autoplay to zero or the time to start the next episode to infinity? As a paying customer, this could be a deal-breaker.

Thanks.

You turn it off within each client app.
It’s called Auto Play.
In Android, for example, it’s under Experience.

By the way, you can turn this off in Netflix too. It’s also called Autoplay and found under each user Profile.

Please tell which Plex client you are using.
The applicable preference can be found in different locations.

If you are using the web app, it is this one:

Thanks. I found the check box in the playback settings on the web app. My primary question was how do I disable it for ALL clients and ALL programs. I don’t want to have to remember to do it every time I watch a program. I never want it to be on ever.

Is there a server or profile setting that completely disables this ‘feature’?

p.s. Thanks for the pointer on Netflix. They allowed me to disable autoplay episodes and autoplay previews for all devices.

There is not. Every client/user can decide this individually.

Tell your web browser to not delete the cookies of the domain plex.tv, every time it is closed. This will retain all client preferences, as well as the login session to your plex account.

Alternatively, install “Plex for Windows/Mac” which doesn’t run in a web browser and therefore won’t forget its preferences that easily.

For some of us the per client and per user setting is a plus. I have the setting On for my Living room Roku and Off in the bedroom. This also allows my users to select their own preference.

So…When I add a new show to my library, how do I set the autoplay default to off?

OttoKerner: I have seen in older posts about this topic that Plex’s reluctance to allow server operators to limit this ‘feature’ can cause serious issues with some users. While Plex says that every client ‘can’ decide this individually, is there a reason why this authority cannot be granted to the server operators, too?

I can’t imagine that the degree of difficulty to provide it is the reason. Is there some underlying reason?

Dan_Bev: I understand that some users don’t need this ability. Others, like me, do. That’s why a server-side option would be a great feature. Those of us who want it could get it and those of us who don’t could disable it.

To me, it seems like an obvious option. That’s why I’m surprised it wasn’t part of the spec when this ‘feature’ was added.

This is a per-client setting. Not per-show. Once it’s off, it’s off.

That’s what we have now, the choice, although it is by client. It only takes a second to turn it off.
