How do I fix incorrectly combined files in a series?

Trying out Plex and it’s mostly good but it seems to make editing things really challenging.

I have a directory with all the episodes and extras from the Firefly DVDs. Using episode 1 as an example Plex has mis-ID’d the file “Firefly Ep 01, Serenity Part 1 & 2” as being the episode The Train Job. I get why, has to do with idiots at Fox airing them out of order.

Does Plex have an easy way to change the episode? Do I really have to cut and paste all the info? If so then Plex, if you want money you need to fix that.

Second problem, In addition to the file “Firefly Ep 01, Serenity Part 1 & 2” there’s a file named “Firefly Extra, 01” which Plex has mis-ID’d as being related to episode 1.

How do I split that file out?

PS. For movies there’s a “Fix Incorrect Match” option under the … menu. Why isn’t that there for each episode in a series?

Did you go through Media Preparation, especially the section on Naming ‘Series’ & ‘Season’ Based TV Shows and Naming TV Show ‘Specials’ ?

For series like Firefly and a few others which have different air-date vs episode number, (quite often a Fox tv show) I use the DVD Order Agent. Link here:

Once you have the agent installed, make sure you have the episodes named in the DVD order, not the default air date the TVDB displays, and use fix incorrect match and select the DVD agent to match rather than the default TVDB agent. Everything should line up the way you want.

On a side note, there’s a little glitch in Plex when you use alternate agents right now, so occasionally Plex might not grab season posters and other tid-bits of data. Hopefully that is fixed soon… it worked perfectly before, and I expect it will again once they nail down the problem.

Just adding here…
for the extras, use a Season 00 folder, or Specials folder, name the file something like “Firefly S00E01.mp4” and they will show up in a specials season for Firefly. If you are lucky enough the special has an episode number you can look them up here for proper naming

Very helpful info, thank you!

In the link to DVD Ordering Agent there’s a picture showing the Plex Media Manager. Is that something that’s been rolled into the server or can I get that as a separate app?

Google kept leading me back to the main Plex site so I’m guessing it’s not standalone any longer in which case, how do you use it? Right click in the web app just shows the browser right click menu.

Disregard the question. I eventually figured out that the link I followed went to page two so I went to page one and from there I worked through until I got it working.

THANK YOU!

I will note that I found multiple references to “Fix Incorrect Match” which doesn’t show up on my menu for Series. What I finally noticed was an Unmatch option and from there I could Analyze and then select the TVDBdvdOrder…

Well ■■■■. I just looked again and now there IS an option for Fix Incorrect Match. I swear it wasn’t there before.

Regardless, it’s sorted now. Thank you.
