Downloaded Plex, ran the installer, clicked the LAUNCH button…NOTHING HAPPENS. All the instructions say something happens, but nothing is happening. I cannot find any information from searching as to what to do if nothing happens, because all instructions assume something happened. I have no setup wizard, and have tried to uninstall, repair, several times…I am stuck.
After launching Plex Media Server the next step is to open the Plex web client to configure the server. You can do that by finding the Plex Media Server icon in the notification area by the clock, right-clicking it, and selecting “Open Plex…” Doing so will open the web client in your default browser.
Are you opening the web client as I described, or using some other link? Either use the method described or use http://127.0.0.1:32400/web.
Also, is the a completely new install of Plex Media Server on this system or has it been installed in the past at some point? If it was ever installed on the system previously it will have left behind some registry keys and data which can interfere with your new installation. Uninstall Plex Media Server in Windows and then follow this procedure to completely clean from your system. Note: This will remove all Plex data from your system. If this is not what you want, and this was only intended to be an upgrade, don’t do this.
Then, access the web client as described above and configure the server.
I had Plex installed years ago…I followed the reg delete and directory delete after uninstall…wow, Plex left behind 1.2GB of data after uninstall! Rebooting now, wish me luck.
I’m pretty sure not, but maybe. It may have been possible to not do the uninstall but just clean the registry and Plex data folder. This was just a sure way to ensure you had a clean slate to work from.
Thank you phil, you aved my server install. Looks like now with that super uninsytall process, it opened up a whole new server config menu list on the left. Maybe because my old Plex server was on a different Plex account, the old “left behind” data got hard locked out…?
Yes, that would definitely do it. There’s actually an entirely different procedure you could have followed if you wanted to recover access to that old server:
