I have been searching the Forums and it doesn’t seem clear to me how I stop my Plex Media Server from running so that I can safely upgrade my Hard Drive storage. Can someone please explain to me how this is done? If I have the web dashboard open, where do I go to stop my server?
I am upgrading from the 2017 Nvidia Shield to the new Nvidia Shield Pro, and in addition to that, I am upgrading from a 5TB WD Passport hard drive that is integrated into my 2017 Shield TV (formatted to become a part of the internal storage) to a WD 12TB hard drive. This time I would like to keep my Plex storage as an External drive. Reason being that I keep getting the message “Nvidia Shield storage is low” message now when it is integrated as part of the internal storage. So my hope is by keeping it external I won’t run into this going forward.
I have already backed up my folders/files on a separate 5TB drive so that nothing would be lost if anything went wrong with migrating files.
Any help, or tips experienced users could give me would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!
Since I’m running the server on Nvidia Shield TV would I stop the server from running on the Plex APK there? Then designate the new location from Internal to external here next?
Maybe it’s a stupid question but do we have to close the server before powering off the device? Shouldn’t the device it self send out some kind of “hey all apps, I’m gonna shut down now so please do what you need and let me know when you’re finished.” Or does it not work like that?
I have never stopped my server before I power it down. But I use freenas.
The Shield uses Android as its OS. Regular closing of apps, like on traditional desktop OS’s is not needed/necessary in Android. The OS is handling this automatically.
