Hello,
I have a windows 10 server running plex that streams to my nvidia shield in the living room. How do I update the version of plex on the shield TV? Do you do it in android TV under apps or in plex on the shield? Does it just do it automatically?
all android based plex clients are updated through play store.
by default, updates happen automatically, but it is possible to disable auto updates within the play store options.
you cannot control the schedule at which play store checks and/or updates apps, however you can manually go into the play store and check the âmy appsâ section, which will indicate if any installed apps needed updated, and then you can trigger the update from there.
amazon/fire devices, similarly use the amazon store for updates, and follow the same basic process as above.
the shield pro can function as a (low powered) plex server, so there are 2 separate âappsâ which get updated (sometimes together, sometimes separately).
you should leave both installed, even if you donât use the server function, this way the play store can keep them both updated as necessary.
there is no âuser interfaceâ to the shield server, but you can enable/disable via the shield plex app settings.
for general android plex (player), please see @
for more info on plex on shield server, please see @
you may also want to ensure the plex server is disabled within the plex player settings, so that it is not running in the background and needlessly using up cpu/ram on your shield.
âGo to the Play Store on the Shield. Scroll down the regular apps until you see Plex App (not the area where you update your apps). Open that Plex app icon, scroll down to âother apps like thisâ and then near the bottom you should see âPlex Media Serverâ. Open that and you should see âUpdateâ. This should update your server portionâ
The key is updating the âPlex Media Serverâ app, not the Plex app.
