I have a Seagate PersonalCloud NAS. It has Plex as a media player in it’s apps, which I have installed. I have uploaded my video files to the PersonalCloud/public. When I turn on my LG Smart TV and navigate to the input list - this appears along with the Seagate Personalcloud and other inputs: Plex Media Server(Personalcloud). It also has the word Linux in the logo, if that is of any significance (I know what Linux is). My problem is that when I choose the Plex Media Server, a message tells me there are no files. Is there something else I need to do?
Hi trumpy81
Thanks for your input. There have been several developments since your very thorough reply. I fiddled about with the sharing and network settings and restarted everything and this seemed to make Plex available via the PMS channel mounted in ‘Inputs’. I could see the files in there but they did not load as PMS files, with all their enhancements but just files I had to navigate to as if I had merely plugged in a USB External Hard Drive. I organised folders in Plex in a way I thought was following the guidelines.
However, I managed to connect to my PersonalCloud and Plex via MediaLink, an app on my LG TV. In other words I bypassed the already established PMS input ‘device’. All worked well last night, watching several videos through the MediaLink app. There were a few glitches. Two of the movies stopped playing completely, forcing me to open them again and navigate back to the place they stopped. After that they completed, but obviously it was quite frustrating. Can you shed any light on that issue, as well as why I might not be able to load PMS in ‘Inputs’, presumably the way it is meant to?
Now to another problem. I left PMS open overnight and this morning, I wanted to continue loading files and folders via my PC. Everything looked as I had left it but PMS seemed to be frozen. I restarted the computer and reopened my PMS client to find all the thousands of files and their respective folders had disappeared and with Plex prompting me to start adding folders, as if for first time use??
Thanks. You will have to forgive my ignorance, I am not much of a technical person. I am doing my best. I will look for the app and see how I can upload it to my TV. Obviously the word ‘device’ was incorrect - inputs on my LG TV are shown as a list from which I can select. One of them is PMS and as my Seagate NAS had several apps incorporated with it, I installed it thinking that would be the answer. As a result PMS now appears as a virtual input but it is no better than a standard device I might plug into a USB port on the TV - no special features. Presumably I have to find a media server, preferably PMS and install it on my TV, as you indicated.
Can you provide more info regarding the finding of ‘The path where local application data is stored’? I followed your instructions but can’t find that particular section.
Another thing has been an ongoing issue - I am told there is an update available requiring me to install it manually. When I download it, Windows can’t find a way of opening it except for a series of file readers I don’t think are appropriate - any suggestions.
