Library update

Hello all I was just trying to update my library I added a new folder to my TV selection. It has not updated after I syncing the library can I get some help.?

a whole load of potential root causes…

  1. did you really update your library or update the metadata?
  2. are the new files visible to Plex? – you can quickly test by adding a folder to the library (library: Edit > Folders > Add Folder – just check if the dialog shows the newly added show / folder / files
  3. did you follow the Plex Media Preparation naming conventions for your tv show files? – should be like Your TV Folder > TV Show (year) > Season XX > TV Show (year) SXXEYY.ext (w/ XX being the season number and YY being the episode number)
  4. Are there any special characters in your file names, especially punctuation or quotes? – try to remove those as the Plex search pattern might struggle with those!

Can you be more specific on exactly what you did? Did you add a folder to your drive or to your library setting or to both? And what do you mean by “syncing”? Plex has a Sync feature so I don’t think you are talking about that.

I created folder on my hard drive which was called TV for my TV series movies episodes. I then created a sub folder in the TV folder for new series. I added my movies in the new sub folder then went to the Plex on my browser then I went to TV menu and click the three dots selected scan library when I did that my new folders was not added to Plex

why the folder for “new series”?
you should include the shows according to the Plex naming conventions directly in the folder linked to your library. If that’s the top level TV folder, all your TV shows should have their own subfolder directly in this folder.

see (3) in my post above, this will give you an example on how Plex expects your files and that’s how Plex will be able to properly match the files to a show and load its metadata / posters etc.

You can’t arbitrarily add files to a TV show. If they are movies related to that show, you can add them as specials but you still need to follow the TV show naming guidelines.

For example, I have the TV Show Stargate. For the original movies and the TV movies, I added them to the “Season 00” folder and named them S00E01, S00E07, S00E08 according to TheTVDB so I will get the proper metadata.

i’ve done that worked on my other files so why is this one not working ?

What is the name of the file?

ya i done that same as my other ones that worked

You haven’t quite found your problem yet - you’re operating on the ‘Thin Ice Principle’ that’ll give way soon…

FileBot (link in my signature) can handle that for you automatically or manually in seconds.

What FileBot can’t do is remove possible embedded metadata in the Title Field of MP4/M4V files. Plex will read this info and prefer it over a perfect file name/structure, but you can combat that situation by moving Local Media Assets to the bottom of every agent list you can find. All tabs in TV Shows and Movies here:
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200241558-Agents
Just drag LMA to the bottom of the list and drop it. If you do have embedded metadata this will cure the issue, if you don’t it won’t matter. LMA will do what it has to from the bottom.

Renaming/restructuring is best performed OUTSIDE the library and you may need to write a new bundle for the show or movie so The Plex Dance® was invented:

The Plex Dance®:

  1. remove show/movie from library
  2. rescan library files
  3. empty trash
  4. clean bundles
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200392106-Library-Actions <— scan library files, empty trash, clean bundles
  5. bring names and structures into compliance/Move LMA/etc
  6. replace corrected show/movie into library
  7. rescan library files

All Steps. In Order. No Shortcuts.
