Jellyfin allows placing this episode visually in the season just as it shows on TVDB. Plex does not.
If you do this in Plex, you’d have to bump all the episode numbers (not a big deal), but your metadata will be completely wrong. There’s no recourse at the moment from what I can see.
What are people doing to fix this issue?
P.S. I have this issue with many anime series. It’s very common for disc-only episodes to come out which are supposed to be watched between the regular season episodes or between seasons. It’d be nice to finally figure out a solution where I can better control episode ordering + get accurate metadata.
If I go to that series in Plex, it will not show the movie in the correct spot for that show right? It will visually be wrong even if Plex magically plays it in the correct order only if I click “next” or Autoplay from the previous episode.
So if I manually click the next episode (which I’ll often do), or if TVDB has it wrong, I will miss placing that movie in the correct spot. In fact, I could miss it entirely.
Yes. It’s not possible to do what you want unless you manually put the episode in between them and then adjust the metadata for it and all episodes after.
It will show up in your On Deck when it actually is the next item to play according to air date (as @OttoKerner said), but not if you manually look inside the season you’d expect it to be in, which is what you’re seeing in Jellyfin.
Yeah, I’m not really into the “On Deck” way of doing it because that requires I don’t accidentally go into the show (which happens if I’m looking for something to watch).
I agree… That’s why I go through the effort to manually edit the meta data and insert them into the seasons where they belong. One of the reasons I don’t let Plex to auto metadata refreshes!
