How do you share playlists with friends?

@tom80H is correct here

WebTools makes a copy of an existing playlist, and if that playlist is changed, a new copy has to be made

@lalala123456 Wait…I’m confused. Did you just solve the problem?? I’m looking at your GitHub page and your work looks completely functional. Obviously it’s not super user-friendly for an average Plex user or integrated, but unless I am missing something, this is a good solution for now.

Sadly not yet. I just was using lalala123456’s powershell code and he currently only sync’s video playlists. When you try and sync an audio playlist, it executes and acts like it completes but what it does is put an empty playlist in the video playlist area. I am already begging him to finish what he started because it really can work with a little bit of additional code. :slightly_smiling_face:

I made this request last year. Shared Playlist please?

+1 Please implement Shared Playlists.
I tried that webtools thing and it’s a pain. Requires too much maintenance of the playlists and you have to keep re-exporting them to friends.

What we need is something like ‘Collections’ that can support both Movies and individual TV episodes, e.g. a collection of Christmas movies that also includes some Christmas special episodes of TV Shows. Alterations/Additions to the Published Playlist should be immediately available to all friends.

Playlists. These should be automatically visible to anyone with library access, unless explicitly hidden. This is ridiculous that this oft-requested feature is STILL not being implemented.

Now if you only have a way to share them with the community… I built an MCU playlist and it was quite time consuming (they get more and more cumbersome with size) and would be more than willing to share with the community, but I needed a webtool plug in just to be able to share it with my own users…

Using that same tool you can download the playlist file, and post that somewhere. Then another user with WebTools installed can use the Import function. I will say that the playlist might require access to the original Plex server, which would be a reason it works for shared users but not other people.

I’ve also built an extensive MCU combined TV-Film playlist, as well as ones for Stargate, the entire chronological Star Trek (ended up splitting that by century because it became unnavigable at 700+ items), and the Whoniverse.

I’m eager to try find out the answer to this, so I’ll post two of mine here: Star Wars (requires access to all 10 films only, no TV); and The Whoniverse for anyone who thinks they have everything Who since 2005 (requires all of Dr. Who (2005), Torchwood, Sarah Jane Chronicles, and Class). Let me know if you can view and play it, not having access to my server.

Plex Playlists.rar (7.3 KB)

I have a PowerShell script that allows you to share music playlists with your friends.

Adding another request to the pile for shared playlists! I did notice the playlist option shows on shared accounts, but no playlists are visible.

Also, I tried using collections as a workaround to the inability to share playlists and ran into another issue when working with collections. Currently, I can’t find a way to play/shuffle collections that are tied to mixed media formats (ex. movies and tv shows). Right now, if I have a collection tag added to both movies and tv shows, I can only play/shuffle the movies or tv shows respectively, but not all together. Please update as this is a much needed feature!

HI all, the new SIS (single instance shared) playlists do NOT show up under playlists.

They show up under “SHARED” section, you may have to click MORE to see it and then you can PIN it to the sidebar.

if you aren’t seeing it accessing local plex web app, login to plex.tv and it’ll be available there.

Still waiting on this would be useful feature. Seems like plex either doesn’t care or is not capable of making it happen…6 years. Crazy.

You might want to read at least the last few posts before jumping to a conclusion.
Have you even tried single item sharing?

Yup. I read that. Still not what was asked for. Being able to share a playlist you make with your users. Unless I’m miss understanding something.

With single item sharing you can grant access to a playlist of yours to your users (managed users or friends) – making it available to their use.
It’s no “joint playlist management”.

Oh snap that’s awesome. I miss read what it was. Let me see if I can figure out how to use it. Thanks!

Is single item sharing available from managed user accounts? The option is missing for me.

All my playlists are in managed user accounts and I can’t access them from the main account. I can share from the main account but I only use it for admin.

I’ve double checked. Only the server owner can share content.
That goes for sharing entire libraries but also for sharing single-items.

A simple tickbox “Share with all users” and then the possibility of unchecking certain users would be handy.
