How does one organize movies with plex so they dont all just show up in one big pile?

i have lots of TV shows and movies on my media hdd.
The TV shows are all organized in folders by show name and season.
pretty much same deal for Movies…all Elvis, james bond, harry potter, etc are in their own neat folder.

yet when i go to browse movies all i get is one giant long list of every movie, short, and featurette.
it makes it VERY frustrating to locate anything.

so how do i get plex to show them in an organized manner?

i

Movies should be structured per the Plex media naming conventions.

https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200381023-Naming-Movie-files

Local Extra assets like Featurettes, trailers, scenes, etc, should be structured using local assets naming conventions for movies.

https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200220677-Local-Media-Assets-Movies

Once it’s scanned in properly and has matches for all media, then you just use the filters and sorting features to narrow the movies down to genre, collection, year, custom tag, etc.

https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200392126-Using-the-Library-View

The library view filtering is a little different for every client but it is available on every client.

Even when you have the extras named correctly after the ‘Local Assets’ guide - the extra types -short and -featurette are only working in a PMS version 0.9.14.3 and higher. Below that version they get shown as normal movies in the library.
So make sure you are on the latest and greatest!

ok let me try to be a bit more clear. ( shoulda been the first time sorry)
if i access plex via my pc and firefox i can see my media just like it is on my hdd…in nice neat folders.
i can see all the media without issue.
but i only rarely watch on my pc.
99.9% of the time i am streaming to my xbox360 which is connected bif ole flat screen.
when i goto look at my library in the xbox client i can see all the media…
now while i do not see folders like in web browser the TV shows are all neatly shown my name and divided by season.
the movies are the issue…again…i can see them all but not organized properly.
when i want to browse the movie library it always defaults to ‘all movies’
i can change that to year, unwatched, genre or content rating.
i want to make it so when i browse movies on plex via xbox i see folders like i dont on my hdd and web browser.
even choosing genre it gets all higgly piggly…family for example…has classic disney cartoons, harry potter, studio ghibli and even some i wouldnt consider family all jumbled together.

Is there any way to accomplish this on the xbox client?

and i also just realized i asked this in the windows section…sheesh…old age

That sounds like the xbox is using DLNA. DLNA doesn’t have all the fancy structuring the other clients have. It’s basically just a list of folders, some of them are categories. Is this the official Plex client for Xbox?

The official client should look like this and has all the standard features:

I can move this thread over into the XBox forum, as I myself have no experience with the XBox Plex client.

yes it is the official plex app.
it looks similar to that image.

actually it looks just like this:
