How Does Plesx DVR EPR Work Exactly?

Hi Everyone,

Could someone please explain how the Plex Program Guide Works? I have an issue whereby regardless of the EPG I select some TV shows never appear within the Plex TV Guide.

In Australia we have

  • Fetch TV
  • Freeview
  • Foxtel

Tonight I would like to record channel 9 at 9pm the show “The Robbie Williams Heavy Entertainment” for my girlfriend

I can see within the Foxtel EPG that it definitely has the TV show listed.

I have the Foxtel EPG selected as my EPG within Plex.

I have refreshed the program guide but the show never appears regardless of how I search “Robbie” “Williams” “The Robbie” etc. Also when I look at ALL TV shows filtered by channel 9 it isn’t listed.

I have confirmed the channel mapping for 9 is correct within Plex.

When I look at the program guide I can see it states “Powered By Gracenote”. My understanding is Plex pulls the program information from the EPG provider (in this case Foxtel) and can use gracenote to enrich if Settings -> Live TV & DVR -> DVR Settings -> Enhanced Program Guide has been enabled?

I have tried using Enhanced Program Guide and leaving it unticked and removing/adding the DVR but the program guide is always the same and never shows the Robbie Williams show. If my understanding is correct why isn’t this show working? Surely it must be a Plex issue as it’s a consistent problem across all three EPG’s?

Bump. Happy to troubleshoot this myself I just someone to point me in the right direction. Is their any logs for the EPG? Anyway we can check via a manual API call what The EPG has for a specific time? This would allow us to narrow down of the issue is with Plex or the EPG feed?

From what I can tell it seems the general day to day TV shows are in the EPG. What’s missing is those out of the ordinary things like the comedy festival gala or this special entertainment from Robbie Williams.

Maybe the EPG data just doesn’t get updated?

Sorry I can’t help, but I’m just wondering how exactly you’re using foxtel and plex?

Hey, I have similar issues myself with the NZ Freeview/SkyTV EPGs. Perhaps we can trouble shoot together? I am not too tech savvy but can do the basics.

I am running:
PMS 1.10.1.4602 on an iMac with 10.13.2
My DVR is a HDHomeRun Connect

Hey Brooksaar - To be clear i’m using the Foxtel EPG which includes programming for free to air channels as well as the Foxtel channels. I can’t watch Foxtel channels within Plex.

Hey Rampant - Would love to troubleshoot but I honestly don’t know where to start. Open to suggestions.
