How To Change EPG Provider | Issue With GraceNote Feedback Form | Why Can't We Filter Shows By Time?

Hi All,

Could someone please advise how we go about changing the EPG that Plex is using? For the life of me I thought it was as simple as going to SettingsLive TV & DVRDVR Settings but it no longer seems to appear? In step 6 of this article it suggests you can choose during setup but when I removed and added my HD HomeRun it simply shows me a list of channels.

I am sure it’s using GraceNote but I am finding it horrendous with every show so far that I have wanted to record missing completely from the program guide even after going in and running a program guide refresh. I understand this is not a Plex issue (with exception of using a different provider) and the fault lies with GraceNote. I also appreciate that Australia is not a country with great EPG support but I was hoping to switch it to use the OTA program guide. Whilst it will lack rich content at least I can find the programs to record

FYI - I tried to use the google form to report the GraceNote issue but couldn’t figure out if I was using OnConnect or EyeQ. The instructions provided here are incorrect as in step 1 i don’t have the three dots … Maybe changes have occurred since the article was written but again for the life of me I couldn’t figure out how to view the xml for a program. I can view it for a recorded program but the identifier string doesn’t contain either tv.plex.providers.epg.onconnect or tv.plex.providers.epg.eyeq.

Finally could someone please explain to me why I can’t search for a program by time? Is this not the most basic way people have recorded TV for the past 1000 years? Hey hun can you record xyz TV show on channel 10 at 9:30pm? I get the advances that the guide offers but when programs aren’t listed it would be mighty helpful to search by the channel/time slot and see if their is an alternative show that gracenote is playing so that we can record that instead then simply change the name once it’s recorded.

Currently this can’t be done without going through EVERY single TV show on the channel within the program guide for the week which is too time consuming and GraceNote offers no TV guide for Aus that I could find to lookup and cross reference. In any case it blows my mind that this basic functionality doesn’t exist. I get their are patents for laying out the information in grid view which may or may not be irrelevant (their is a whole thread here on that) but can’t we at least be able to view what show is playing at a specific time?

Thanks,
BigSack

P.s for anyone considering PlexDVR and reading this it is actually pretty awesome as long as your EPG feed is spot on. GraceNote seems to work well in the U.S. In Aus, however, their feed sucks a big one and Plex’s lack of search/filter by time compounds the issue providing a frustrating and overall negative user experience.

Question 1: You must delete the DVR, not the device from the DVR. The option listed in step 2, not step 6, is only available when creating the DVR.

Question 2: from a web browser, to figure out which guide you are using go into the Program Guide and click on any show currently airing. In the address bar look for the guide provider. Yes the interface was changed after the article was written.

Question 3: A traditional grid will be coming. But wanted to make sure you are aware you can search for a show from the guide.

Thanks John much appreciate the super prompt response! You seriously are like a ninja

Totally get you can search but in my case being in Aus and GraceNote not having the show, search is useless

The filtering and search is actually pretty awesome, I just can’t understand why we can filter by time when it would have the start time for every show in the database anyway so that it can show it on the program guide. Any idea when this is coming?

@bigsack Within the guide, choose shows, - then All (or even the channel you want) - Then Episodes, Then By Airing

it sorts the list by time, if you choose channel it even takes it down to that channel by time. Not perfect but should give you a sorted listed by time and even channel if you so choose.

Thanks BRBMan that’s exactly what I was looking for! Plex can sort by time! #Winning
