How to activate in iOS without family sharing?

I activated my Plex on iPad through one-time in-app activation ($4.99 from the Apple App Store). My wife, who is on our family sharing plan, tried the same. However, Plex activation apparently does not work with family sharing. It keeps reverting to the one-minute playback after the “activation” process.

I don’t mind paying another $4.99 for her to have the app activated, but how do we activate it if the App Store keeps honoring the family sharing status, and not accepting payment?

Following up to my own post. After re-reading the help article, I used “Restore Purchase,” which seems to have solved the issue.
