iOS activation for Family Sharing members doesn't seem to work

Hi,

I have a Plex life time pass, and I have invited my step-daughter and step-son as friends to view my library. So they are not part of my Plex Home, and just added as friends. They don’t live in our house anymore and we don’t share devices, so I didn’t want to add them to my Plex Home…

Both have an iPhone and wanted to view some of the content using the iOS Plex app — and both are members of Apple Family Sharing, where I am admin. So to give them access to using the iOS Plex app, I just made a in-app purchase on my iOS device to activate the iOS app so that they both could restore purchases on their devices. As far as I understood the support pages the in-app purchase should be shared with family members if purchased by the admin (me in this case).

However, they don’t seem to be able to click on “Restore purchases” on their devices. They just get an “uh oh!” message. So I’m unsure if the purchase is actually shared across my family.

What am I doing wrong? I hope my description above makes sense.

mvh,
Magnus

Can you check if you met all the prerequisites when buying the in-app purchase?

  • The iOS device must be running iOS 14.0 or newer system software

Yes. Running latest versions of iOS (15.3)

  • Your Apple ID must be a member of a “family” in Apple

Yes.

  • The one-time, in-app purchase must be made by the “admin” account for the family

Done (by me). I can see the purchase under my purchase history for my apple account as well.

  • When signed in to your member Apple ID, use the Restore Purchase button either on the activation screen or under Settings > Account in the Plex app

Yes. Done that.

Does force-quitting the app before retesting make a difference?

Hi.
No, it doesn’t make any different. Restarting the phone and trying again doesn’t either.
