How to add a "half-season" of a TV show to the library (reg. Power Rangers)?

I’m in the process of ripping the entire Power Rangers DVD and Blu-ray collection and generally Plex does a perfect job identifying the right seasons, titles all the metadata etc. but there’s one “half-season” it has a problem with - Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers.

According to Wikipedia and other sources such as the RangerWiki “Alien Rangers” is considered to be season 3.5, it consists of 10 episodes which were aired after the third “Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers” season, it connects it to the following main 4th season “Power Rangers Zeo”, but Plex has a problem identifying it.

This is how I initially named the folders/files:

Power Rangers
| - 01 - Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
| - | - Mighty Morphin Power Rangers - S01E01 - Day of the Dumpster.mkv
| - | - Mighty Morphin Power Rangers - S01E02 - High Five.mkv
| - | - …etc.
| - 02 - Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
| - 03 - Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
| - 03.5 - Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers
| - | - Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers - S03E01 - Alien Rangers of Aquitar, Part I.mkv
| - | - Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers - S03E02 - Alien Rangers of Aquitar, Part II.mkv
| - | - …etc.
| - 04 - Power Rangers Zeo
| - 05 - Power Rangers Turbo

and so on. This caused Plex to consider the files from the 03.5 season to be alternative versions of season 3 which is understandable so I changed the naming scheme to:

Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers - S03.5E01 - Alien Rangers of Aquitar, Part I.mkv

This confused Plex even more, now it thinks that it’s Season 3 Episode 5. Next, I removed the season part of the name altogether and called it:

Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers - E01 - Alien Rangers of Aquitar, Part I.mkv

Now those episodes are nowhere to be seen, as if these files didn’t exist.

The only 2 ways I found so far to make them appear correctly is to either count them as further episodes of season 3, so if the main season has 33 episodes, I’d start the Alien Rangers count at 34 like this:

Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers - S03E34 - Alien Rangers of Aquitar, Part I.mkv

which, as expected, puts them into the “Season 3” category, or to completely remove them from the Power Rangers folder, but in that case they show up as a separate show.

With all that said, my main question is - how can I include them in the main “Power Rangers” category as a separate season 3.5? Plex can’t get any metadata for them regardless of which of the 2 methods above I use so either way I’ll have to add all the metadata manually, but while I’m at it, I’d really like to be able to have these 10 episodes show up as “Season 3.5” within the “Power Rangers” show/category. It there any way to do this?

TV Shows are matched using TheTVDB, not wikipedia. Look and see how those episodes are organized there. You need to follow whatever they have set.

Edit - Plex can’t handle season 3.5. It will likely be part of season 3 or specials. It could even be it’s own show.

In TheTVDB they’re listed as part of season 3, but my question still stands - is it possible to create your own season in Plex? I mean just like you can edit the poster, names of episodes, summaries etc. can you somehow add a custom season with a custom name for it?

You can create a custom season but not a half season. You can create season 35 but not 3.5.

Ok, let me clarify what I mean. Based on your response, I’m assuming you’re suggesting that in order to create a season I should simply modify the file names to make Plex think there’s a separate season, but I can’t use something like 3.5 as it won’t understand this, right?

What I’d like to know, though, is whether it’s possible to manually create a season in the UI, regardless of the file name or the file’s location. Just like I can use the “Edit” option to change the episode title in Plex (and not touch the file name), is there any “Add season” option or a way to select multiple episodes and then somehow make a separate season out of them which I could then name any way I like, even 3.5 because I wouldn’t modify the file, just like I’m not modifying the file by editing the metadata in Plex.

Is this possible? Even if not directly via the UI, could it be done by modifying some XML file where all the metadata is stored?

No, you cannot change seasons by editing the data in the UI. Seasons are based on the filename, so you have to change it there.
