How to add Concert Movies?

Server version: 1.22.1.4275 (But this isn’t related to any specific version)

I have a library for concert films that has been working OK for me, as long as the films are listed in TheMovieDb. I caught part of a Jewel concert on cable and finally tracked down the blue ray, but I’m not sure how to name the files from the two disc set for Plex. You can see TheMovieDb write-up here: Jewel: The Essential Live Songbook Basically, there are two different concerts, plus some extra stuff.

I guess I could make the “main” concert be the “movie” and everything else be an extra, but that doesn’t feel right. Is anyone willing to help out with ideas or better yet, an explanation of how they did it? If not, I’m sure I’ll figure something out, but help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Eventually, it’ll ‘Feel Right’.
Those seem to be your options, as you have described, 'cause you have 1 4h Movie Listing at TMDB. The logical choice for everything else would be Extras.

Or I could manually override everything, I suppose that could work, too. There are actually 3 concerts (well, two plus part of one) with running times around 1:30, 0:30 and 2:00, plus an interview and single song video. Those last two are definitely “extras” for one of the other three, but I guess I will just manually identify everything instead of allowing any automatic matching, since the automatic stuff doesn’t support this kind of thing because none of these were released separately as a “movie” though I think the two longest may have once been individual Sound Stage episodes.

Thanks for confirming my “worst case” thoughts! At least Plex still allows manual tagging …

If there’s 2 + part of another, you could make a collection.

I hear Collections are all the rage at present. Lol

Are they all different files?

The listing at TMDB reveals ‘The Movie’ contains 2 Concerts. If you have one file with those two concerts they fit the description of ‘The Movie’.

Everything else must be an Extra - if you want them attached to this ‘Movie’.

You could, via some trumped-up-Drama make a TV Show out of it, but for the life of me I can’t see that as being any ‘Easier’ - to achieve - or watch.

Put it together as described and see what it looks like. The Extras will lay out right under the ‘Movie’. It’ll look fine, I’ll bet. <—name the Extras cleverly, so they’ll behave in this setting.

For Instance - let’s pretend this is the Concert:

(There will only be ONE cast member and she does have a picture)

Grab/Create a nice background. Name the Extra Files so they’ll make sense. It’ll be attractive and functional. Isn’t that the goal?

If that just doesn’t suit - tell us what pieces you have and we’ll try to build something else with it.

Each disc in the Bluray set (there are 2) has one of the concerts. Disc one also has excerpts from a 3rd concert, an interview and a music video. I found listings for the main movie of each disc at IMDB and the first one seems to have worked OK (the second is still being ripped from the bluray). I’m going to add the extras as extras to the 1st “film”, but sadly there is no category for a music video extra, which is one type I’ve seen on many of my DVD and Bluray discs. So “other” it will be. (Except for the interview, that one’s easy. :grinning:)

Thanks for the ideas and the help. It seems there is always more to learn…

If you are on the new “Plex Movie” agent, try using -video nonetheless.

If you need to append the two parts of the concert into one file, you should do that directly after ripping, before applying re-compression.

If -video works, that will be great! Thanks, Otto. Perhaps changes like that could be added to the documentation pages, like this one that I often use for reference: Local Files for Trailers and Extras?

Apparently, neither -other nor -video are being recognized. I have the two files duplicated, one with each suffix, and neither is showing as an extra when I look at the movie listing in Plex. The -interview is showing exactly as expected, though. Perhaps Plex waits much longer before adding/showing extras? I already see a new movie I added about 15 minutes after duplicating and renaming the extras to -video, but the extras are still not showing.

Here’s how my movie library is configured, do I have something wrong?

I switched to the new movie agent some time back – well before adding this stuff in the last 24 hours.

It seems that changes to extras aren’t being recognized for me. I did The Plex Dance ™ and my changes to the extras finally appeared. It seems that neither adding new nor removing existing extras changed the extras that were being displayed. Instead I needed to Plex dance the entire movie folder just to add one new extra. Sigh. At least it is done now.

And the -video does indeed work by tagging those extras as Music Video. Hopefully that new option (and any others) might be added to the documentation so we can actually use them.

Thanks, Otto, for getting me on the right track.

Did you try to Refresh Metadata, instead of Scan Library Files?

@OttoKerner it did not occur to me to try Refresh Metadata since I was adding/remaining/removing media files in the library. For some [apparently foolish] reason, I thought that Scan Library Files told Plex to scan the library for changes to files that were in (or not yet in) its database. It never occurred to me that some files are actually metadata and I must’ve missed it in the documentation.

But thanks for pointing it out. I will try it as soon as I remember where some of the music video extras I have are located and I rename them from -other to -video.

[EDIT: I found one on GotG vol 2: Guardians’ Inferno. Sure enough, using Refresh Metadata causes Plex to scan for changes to the media files containing the extras. I honestly would never have thought of that. Thanks again, Otto.]

This is actually consistent with the behavior of the old agents.
There, we had a separate agent for “(LMA) local media assets” (trailers, extras, external subtitles, posters etc.).
So refreshing metadata will kick this LMA into action.
And it only needs to look at one item, instead of scanning the whole library, which of course can save quite some time.
