How to add local metadata with Plex Scanner fails?

I’ve started adding some more obscure music that it looks like is in MusicBrainz/etc, but for whatever reason doesn’t show in the Plex Scanner.

There doesn’t seem to be any way to contribute to the Plex Scanner metadata or flag a song as missing, as far as I can tell. Is there a way that I can manually add the metadata to my file structure so it shows up in my library normally without having to go to “Folder View?” I don’t even think PlexAmp has a “folder” view for music…

An example of the file structure of a song like this is:

/library/Music/Charles Sheffield/It's Your Voodoo Working + Rock 'n' Roll Train/01 - It's Your Voodoo Working [MP3-VBR-V0][MP3 2.0].mp3

Adding it to MusicBrainz is the way to contribute. If Plex isn’t finding something automatically, does fixing the album match and explicitly searching for the release mbid (311e3a52-5699-4f8d-a810-d0647e57bc33 in your example) bring in the right data? It’s loading in alright for me:

If there are other albums/tracks that aren’t showing up (and they weren’t just added to MusicBrainz), then reporting those specific items here is probably your best option so an employee can check whether something went wrong on their end when picking up MusicBrainz changes.

More generally though, if you enable ‘Prefer local metadata’ in your library settings and have the correct metadata set (album artist, artist, track title, track number, etc.), Plex will pull that information in. Make sure all your other music is tagged properly though, as improperly tagged music can mess up a library pretty easily.

I’ve had far fewer issues with music matches/organization after adding Picard to my workflow. Since it embeds MusicBrainz IDs that Plex can use for matching (in addition to all the other standard metadata fields), you’re ~guaranteed to have the right data in Plex as long as there’s a MusicBrainz match.

Thank you! How do you “fix a match” for an item that isn’t showing in the library? I looked in the Folder view to get to the song, but didn’t see any option in the menu to fix the match on the file itself.

This actually clicked for me why it wasn’t working - the tags in the file were incorrect. Thank you for the help, all the same!
