Plex never sees specific songs despite use of Scan Library Files"

Server Version#: 1.22.1.4228
Player Version#: 4.53.0

I have created an album that is a collection of MP3 files downloaded from a Patreon artist. Every attempt to add the MP3 files via “Scan library” are unsuccessful. The files are in a folder under the artist name then a folder called “Patreon”. All of the MP3 files have the details updated to include the song Title, Contributing Artist, Album Artist, Album, and Year. It pics up ten of the files but the other four are never picked up.

Possibly related: All of the songs in this folder – despite having the details updated in each file – never show that information in the metadata. I have to manually add the metadata. Using “Refresh Metadata” does nothing.

Please state the currently selected defautl metadata agent of your music library. You can find it by Edit your library, then going to the “Advanced” tab.

Could you generate an overview of your file and folder names as well as the embedded meta tags, similar to this?

Thank you for replying. Currently selected agent is “Plex Music”

The four songs that it refuses to include are:

  • I Swear
  • Never Gonna Give You Up
  • Sea Shanty Medley
  • When a Man Loves a Woman

I assume that the Plex library is pointed at S:\Music only, right?

Did you also populate the “Track Number” meta tags?

Do these tracks play outside of Plex?

S:\Music is where all my music files are located; that is the only music folder configured in Plex.

All of the tracks – including the four Plex won’t add – play fine in VLC.

I did not populate the track or disk tags since this was a contrived album.

Sorry, I don’t know this expression. What does it mean?

By “contrived” I mean that it is an album that I just put together; one where I just took a bunch of songs and constructed my own album from them.

Even with such an album, you need to

  1. decide on an Album Artist
  2. tag your files with it
  3. store the album folder inside an artist folder for this particular albumartist

Yes, as you can see from the Mp3Tag screenshot, that has been done: All songs have Artist, Album Artist tagged, are all in a folder (Patreon) underneath the name of the Artist (Home Free).

So, the question remains: Why does Plex not “see” these four songs and how do I get them to appear in Plex?

Please try and populate the track number tags.
Then add the album again and see what happens.

I added track and disk number for all tracks. I then went into Plex and opened that album. I then did “Scan Library Files” and it still did not find the files. I then did “Refresh Metada” and it updated the metadata to reflect the tracks but only for the songs it found, still skipping those four songs.

I then, from Plex, deleted that album. I then went to the artist page (Home Free) and did “Scan Library Files” and it would not pick up any of those songs.

I then closed Plex, deleted the folder, opened Plex and did “Scan Library Files” once more.
I then dropped the folder (Patreon) back into the artists folder (Home Free), and again did “Scan Library Files”.

Now it does not see any files in that folder.

BTW: I really appreciate your time in trying to help me with this. It is a bit frustrating. Every time I get to the point where I think I’ll purchase a Plex Pass because I want to do more and support the effort, I run into something like this that makes me question whether that is a good thing to do. :frowning:

Ok, weird. After posting the previous, I thought, “Maybe it put the songs somewhere else…”. So I did a search for one of the songs (When a Man Loves a Woman), and it found it! I thought, “Oh ho, it did put them somewhere else.” But, no, they now appear in the page as expected even though they weren’t there when I posted the previous response.

Do you have an explanation for this delayed response to “Scan Library Files”?

The web app doesn’t get notified immediately about changes within an album.
It is safest, to leave the album preplay page and re-enter it.
In some cases you even have to reload the web app in your browser (F5) to make it forget the outdated information.
