How to add my media?

Server Version#: 1.21.3.4021-5a0a3e4b2
Player Version#: 4.51.1

I have purchased a Plex Pass (monthly) and installed the Plex Media server. However I don’t find a way to add my media - only the Plex online Content is available. If I click on “My Media” I get a page with a link to download the plex Server. But I already installed it!

In order to complete the setup you need to open your Plex Media Server through its local IP.
If you’re on the same device… open http://127.0.0.1:32400/web in your browser. If you’re on a different machine inside your home network, use http://[PMS IP address]:32400/web instead. This will bring up a wizard/dialog where you can name your server and link it to your Plex account (as well as creating your first libraries).

Once you “claimed” your server (=linked it to your Plex Media Account), you’ll also be able to access it from other Plex apps or via http://app.plex.tv/desktop.

Ok, no soup for me..

I’ve signed out from Plex server and plex.tv, and signed in again on my Plex server on the network, but it keeps saying no soup for me.

Did you have another installation of a Plex Media Server on that machine before?
Potentially using a different Plex account?

If so… take a look at this support article:

Hi tom80H

I followed the article, I also found it before myself. I’ve completely deleted the Preferences.xml, and now it got re-created but there are no PlexOnline* entries in the Preferences.xml.

Still no soup.

Also signed in with another browser I’ve never used with Plex. Still no soup.

Now signed in local on the server. Like localhost:32400. No soup as well. Something seems to be very strange.

Ok it just doesn’t work. I’ll try to get my money back.

You know that you don’t need a Plex Pass to run your server, do you?

Well I thought I did. Because I didn’t see any Server options and the server I’ve installed points me to the download page of said server software. It’s ridiculous, I have installed the server. On Ubuntu. The package reads plexmediaserver…deb

How can I delete the whole server?

I’ve done this:

  • apt-get remove --purge plexmediaserver
  • userdel plex
  • rm -rf /var/lib/plexmediaserver

After reinstalling, it seems it reads some preferences, I think it still has some information saved somewhere (no setup wizard etc. follows)

I don’t see ANY server options:

A few questions if I may?

  1. Which distro ?
  2. If Ubuntu, did you download from Plex.tv/downloads or the Ubuntu store?
  3. What is the LAN IP address of the host?
  4. Can you open a terminal session, cd over to /var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Logs and make a tar.gz of everything there then add that GZ here?
