How to allow insecure connections?

Simple question.

How do I allow insecure connections again in the web app?

I want to watch Plex on the web app and my setup requires an insecure connection.

(please do not suggest to make the connection secure, it is not possible)

I was checking the settings of my web browser, and I clicked on Settings>General>Reload with Secure connection (this option was the I put the red rectangle in the following image)

And now I can’t use the web app, what I get is:

General settings in the web app do not include the “Allow Fallback to Insecure Connections” setting that I can see in the Player App.

No matter what I try, I can’t get Plex to ask me again if I want to allow insecure connections. So I cannot use the web app.

Please help I you know what to do

Check the address bar of your web browser. What does it show if you access app.plex.tv ?

Hey! The second image is what it shows. Thanks!

Your screenshots don’t include the address bar.

Re: Plex Web

Maybe this update to Plex Web 3.97.1 affected things:

  • Added a confirmation step before allowing insecure fallback connections to a server.

If I directly access PMS, https://192.etc, then Plex Web is v3.95.2, and I see the Allow Fallback to Insecure Connection options.

If I use app.plex.tv, now at v3.97.3, I do not see the Allow Fallback... options.

Re: Secure Connections

Have you tried disabling secure connections at the server level?

PMS Settings → Network → Secure Connections = Disabled

Thank you for your response, here is the image with the adress bar.

Try this: use the IP address of your Plex server machine
http://192.168.0.20:32400/web

If Plex server is running on the same machine as your web browser, you can use
http://127.0.0.1:32400/web

This was tested with Chrome and Firefox and using the most recent Plex Server version 1.15.5.994
Make sure you don’t have any web browser add-ins activated which filter out parts of the web app, like uBlock, AdBlock, NoScript etc pp.

I couldn’t test it with Safari, sorry.

I had this same problem tonight. On the same computer as my server, Saw a message about trying to connect securely - so I clicked it. And suddenly I had no access to my own server on my own browser.

Chrome. Windows 10.

Thankfully, I found this page and after reading it four times, I figured out what to do-

app.plex.tv is Version 3.97.3
Connecting through my local ip address is Version 3.83.1

Only that way did I have the access to change my settings and Secure Connections Setting to Preferred.

So yeah, something in 3.97.3 is way worse than 3.83.1 because that was a damn frustrating hour trying to access my own server on my own computer.

The option to connect insecurely needs to be available in case it doesn’t match the server settings because if I couldn’t still access the older web version, I’d be out of luck right now.

And also - why are there different web versions based on how I load Plex locally? That’s weird but tonight I’m grateful.

The hosted version, app.plex.tv, is always the latest & greatest.

The version bundled with PMS, which is installed on your local server, is generally a few releases behind.

yep this worked for me. Thank god you guys figured this out…I got screwed by the same thing!
