How to assign permissions to mounted folders and "source" folders on Synology NAS?

Still struggling to get things working right. Two steps forward, one step back.

My current, ongoing, issue is managing permissions between folders and files that are stored on my Synology NAS and having access to their mounted folders on the Ubuntu server.

I have TV shows that get dumped into a “storage” folder on my Ubuntu server after they are recorded. But when I copy them into my “TV Shows” folder, they aren’t being seen by Plex, and it seems that they aren’t inheriting the right permissions from the “TV Shows” folder. I have been moving them using Windows Explorer, which has access to all of my network folders.

Anything that gets written first to the server’s storage folders, and then moved onto my NAS becomes impossible to see without reapplying folder permissions. I’m obviously doing something wrong, but not sure what exactly.

Any tips for settting folder/file permission levels for a Plex install running on Ubuntu Server but reading files stored on a Synology NAS?

I’m finishing that document to help. I will have it posted in Linux Tips (top of the Linux forums) momentarily.

I will reply here when posted.
