How to be a beta tester ?

Hello i’m french, and i didn’t find where can i become a beta tester ?

I think it was interesting to have beta tester in other language than english …

I use plex every day, with MKV, MP3 and photos.

It isn’t a devolpper post but i didn’t know where to post my request.

Excuse me for my poor english

Bonjour chrissou,

The latest code can be found at http://github.com/elan/plex/tree/v0.6

You can find the French localization files in Plex.app/Contents/Resources/Plex/language/French

Many of the strings you see are actually part of the skin.

See Plex.app/Contents/Resources/skin/MediaStream/language/French

Thanks a lot for the link

Sorry for a dumb question, but shouldn’t the current release be 0.7.something?

At the link, I can’t “download” (get a “This repo is too large to generate a zip/tarball” response), but I guess when I study the git UI closer I’ll find another way

The last official release was 0.5.22

I don’t see a 0.7 branch in the repository.

If my math is correct 0.6.x comes before 0.7.x

That's all affirmative, but what about all the "PLEX/SEVEN" RSS spoilers?

You’re right. I’ve also found several posts referring to 0.7

The 0.6x branch will be the stable branch and the 0.7x branch will be the really cool new stuff that’s not known to be completely stable. Kind of like the trunk and branch of Mozilla projects.

To quote elan from his blog…

The source for 0.7 isn’t currently public. We’re working hard testing the last couple of alpha builds internally to get rid of the remaining bugs. The source will be released at the same time as the binaries

Chrissou,

I believe that Elan and the dev crew picked the beta testers by looking at highly active, knowledgeable posters on the forums. I’d say get involved with the Plex community first, prove your knowledge and there’ll be a good chance the guys will flick you the releases before the rest of us! for testing

The decision to keep the main dev branch of the code for the upcoming releases private could be seen as a point of contention depending on who you talk to. I guess its balancing being able to work relatively in peace on the new features etc, and being able to be more confident in the quality of the releases when they do come out, vs having to react to random peoples issues found in half developed code from a dev build. Elan and the crew have decided to go with the more stable, more confidence approach which will help everyones confidence in them and the app in the long run.

love to be a beta tester also

i’m a “active, knowledgeable poster”

Yeah, because 0.7’s the “unstable” branch, it’s only recently got to the stage where it’ll run reliably & everything works as expected. We’ve been working on it in parallel with the 0.5 series, fixing things in the 0.5 branch & releasing the changes, while working on new ideas in 0.7. Releasing something half-finished and likely to crash randomly wouldn’t have been a good idea!
