Any suggestions on how to change the generic thumbnail showing on PMS for recorded TV shows? See below, most of my shows with a series keeps showing this stupid Carvana image.
Thanks
Normally, Plex will use a still image from the episode itself.
Which implies that the above picture exists somewhere in the root folder of your DVR library.
Go on the hunt for picture files. If you’re on Windows, search also for ‘hidden’ and ‘system’ files.
Short answer is you can’t change it. the episodes take a single frame from the show and use it for all of them.
The Carvana thumbnail is showing up on many of the other shows, not just the one I screenshot, so its not grabbing from the shows
On Qnap/Linux, what directory/path is the root of my tv show folder?
The one you have set on the ‘Add Folders’ tab when you created the tv show library.
Edit your library
no .jpg files in those folders
They can be PNG or BMP or TBN files as well.
Don’t forget to enable showing of hidden files as well.
Well I found one in /PlexMediaServer/Library/Plex Media Server/Cache/PhotoTranscoder/62 directory. Can I just delete all of the files/folders under PhotoTranscoder and PMS will rebuild?
STOP.
This is not the right folder. Don’t mess with its contents.
I am talking about the folder where the actual video files are (and the ‘parent’ folders thereof!)
Right, nothing shows up for searching *.jpg .bmp or . tbn Any other ideas?
Thanks
Was this recorded with Plex’s own DVR feature or with a different software?
that carvana thumbnail is showing for shows in a series for multiple shows that were recorded using the Plex DVR connected to a HDHR Prime. Some of the thumbs in a series shows the carvana image and newer ones are showing a frame from the recorded show. It seems haphazard. All shows with carvana image were recorded using Plex DVR
And this picture doesn’t appear in the video?
Maybe it’s kind of like a sponsor message at the beginning of each show or something?
Are you or were you using a custom DVR postprocessing script?
yes, Handbrake to convert from .ts to .mp4
Then I’d inspect those MP4 files whether they contain embedded cover art pictures.
Thanks, can you provide guidance on how to inspect the MP4 file?
Also one other thing to note, I do run every recorded TV show thru MCEBuddy to remove the commercials with Comskip. I had a setting enabled which downloads additional info about the show and the help file says “banners, file episode, season, etc.” so this may be the culprit. I disable this last evening and will report weather that defeated the dreaded carvana thumbnail
The embedded poster should be shown if you inspect the properties of the file with Windows file explorer.
You could also use mp3tag
