How to configure Plex on Mac Mini and also Plex on Synology NAS

This is a mistake. Never touch permissions for the PlexMediaServer shared folder. Doing so can cause problems with Plex.

  1. Stop Plex Media Server

  2. Undo whatever permissions you configured.

  3. Run FAQ 32: Repairing the PlexMediaServer shared folder to restore correct permission.

  4. Start Plex Media Server.

Ensure the user PlexMediaServer has at least read only access to the files. See FAQ 29 - DSM 7 - Give PlexMediaServer access to your media.

Make sure you follow Plex’s naming and organization requirements. See the Music section in Plex Documentation → Your Media.
