Plex install through Synology, created 2 servers

Server Version#:
Player Version#:

I installed Plex through Synology and in the installation process it asked me to download and install the plex server on my mac as well. So basically, I now how a server through my Synology and then my Mac server, but only the Mac server version is able to link to where my movies are stored. The Synology based server can’t access the shared folder on my synology.

I just want the Synology based server, not my Mac one. When my Mac shuts down, the server is unavailable.

Can someone help me figure out how to work only through my synology server and add my movies to it?

Thank you!

As I understand MacOS (just learning), you remove the app .

I believe PMS keeps the server’s metadata under your ~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server folder which you’ll want to delete as well.

For the next step, we remove the Mac server from Plex’s list.

https://app.plex.tv → Settings (upper right) → Authorized Devices (Upper left) →

Change “All” to “Server” (dropdown) → REMOVE the MacOS server.

Now you can close the browser and reopen it.

Next we work on the Syno:

  1. Open the DSM desktop
  2. Package Center
  3. Make sure PMS is “Running”.
  4. Open a new tab to ‘http://ip.address.of.synology:32400/web

It should now want you to sign in.

If you have ‘Quick Connect’ configured – Don’t use it yet. It will cause problems.

Thank you for your reply.

For some reason, when I attempt to add my videos to my Plex libraries, it does not let me navigate to the folder that the videos reside in… I have a “Video/DVDs” folder. It only allows me to navigate to “Volume1/Videos”, but not “Volume1/Videos/DVDs”. When I try to just add the “Volume1/Videos” location, no videos are added to the library.

Any clue why that’s happening? Thank you.
