Hey,
Loving the new smart collections. Does anyone know if it is possible to have them work across two libraries like the standard collections do? For example you can have an MCU collection that contains both the movies and tv shows.
Unfortunately not, since these are based on filters, which only work inside one library.
Is this a realistic feature to request? Two filters from different libraries?
Nothing is impossible, but it might not happen soon.
Some filter conditions are only possible in tv show libraries, other only in movie libraries.
To bring these into a common filter expression might be complicated.
Could you not allow two filter expressions? Maybe add another drop down where you select the library you want the filter to act on and depending on which library you select determines the subsequent options?
As I said, nothing is impossible. But this appears to be a stretch and quite a complicated user experience.
As I understood it, cross-library collections were never actually a thing and Plex basically ties them together by associating collections with the same name in two different libraries.
e.g. I have two separate collections named Marvel, one in my Movies library and one in my TV Shows library. Plex shows “TV Shows in the Marvel Collection” at the bottom of the Marvel collection in the Movies library and “Movies in the Marvel Collection” at the bottom of the Marvel collection in my TV Shows library.
This doesn’t work with Smart Collections.
Would it not be possible to apply this same logic to Smart Collections so, if you are viewing a Smart Collection and there is also one with the same name in another library, Plex will also display the items from that one?
This will be great to have cross libraries, or even push it further, when you view a movie and then view some of the added content (actors, directors, etc), when you select them, their related movies/shows are shown, have the ability to “one-click” save that as a smart collection.
I’m with @gadgetchannel on this one. Tying the smart collections on the collection name should be enough. I love this feature since it makes organizing the library so much easier. I have put in a feature request for this. Please go in and vote if you want to help
