I’m still running a version of PMS from before Credit Detection was a thing. I’ve been planning to upgrade my PMS for a while now, but have been holding off since the announcement of the new Credit Detection mechanism. Having read every thread I can find on the subject, I’m more convinced than ever that I do not want this “feature” activated on my Plex server/libraries and I never want my media files analyzed for the creation of credit markers. I never want to see a “skip credits” button and I never want to see the picture shrunk down during the credits.
However, apparently this feature is set to “on” by default in the new PMS version(s) and I haven’t seen any way to be able to get in and make sure the thing is turned off after I update and before the process gets started by itself.
Is there some way to accomplish this (specifically, upgrade to current version of PMS for my QNAP NAS and turn Credit Detection completely and forever off before Plex starts analyzing the media files and creating credit markers)? If so, can someone detail the steps necessary to do this?
I’m a little suspicious though. Doing the first option will prevent it from analyzing credit markers during maintenance or when added, but doesn’t indicate it won’t generate any markers if you do a manual analyze. I’d hope that turning it off server-wide would disable the option though.
Another thing to watch for, might be the first drop-down in my first screenshot: Marker Source. If you have that set to “both”, then technically your server might download markers for files that are identical to files owned by other users (Plex apparently uploads a unique hash of each file we have markers for). This’d be great for people that want to keep these markers when transferring to another server, but I thought they suggested that work done by one server might be sent to another.
It’s definitely sharing the credit markets to other users. Movies that I add are being instantly analyzed and given the markers. Of what I’ve paid attention to, my server has only actually had to analyze ~20% of the stuff that’s been thrown at it so far.
As long as it actually is anonymous, I think I’m good with this. It’s actually the reason I turned it on for my TV library rather than just movies. Otherwise it would have taken months to analyze the whole library.
