How to disable Plex Live TV for one managed account, but not others?

I have a managed account for my son with restrictions on what he can view. I originally had the Online Media Sources → General → Live TV setting set to “Disabled for Managed Accounts” and all was well. He can watch TV when I’m around to pick channels for him, but he can’t just turn on the TV and watch whatever he wants (my account is PIN protected).

However, my mom moved in with us and I set up a managed account for her to use and I can’t figure out how to enable TV for her, but keep it turned off for my son. I tried changing the Live TV setting to “Enabled” and then went into my son’s managed account and went to the “Restrictions” area, and set the “Live TV & DVR Access” to “No Live TV and DVR access”, but when I log in with his account it still shows the Plex TV channels.

I searched the forum and saw how to change the setting for ALL managed accounts, but I can’t find anything on setting it for 1 account only. I also saw requests for setting parental controls on the Live TV lineup, but those all were closed out and never implemented as far as I can tell.

Is this not possible to do? I don’t want to share my main account with my mom, because I want our watch history and TV show tracking to be separate.

Only with a workaround: create a regular plex user account for your mother. Use an email address of yours as you will be managing the account for her (I’m assuming).
Some email providers allow you to create alias adresses for the same account, most easily with Gmail where you only need to insert some +suffix in front of the @ character in your regular email address.
Once this account is up and running,

  1. invite it into your Plex Home
  2. share whatever libraries you want from your server

The downside of this workaround is that the invited account doesn’t get most of the benefits of your Plex Pass. If these are required for some reason, it needs a Plex Pass of its own.

Thank you! This did the trick! I didn’t realize that was a thing you could do.
