Plex Home users still have access to Live TV even though it's disabled

Server Version#: 1.42.2.10156
Player: iPad app

Created new Plex Home user for my kid, disabled Live TV, but when signing in, the Live TV button is still on the bottom menu, and they have access to all the Plex TV channels. How can that be disabled?

Live TV is not the Plex channels, it’s your dvr if you have that enabled. For the Plex channels you want to disable ”Movies and shows”.

@MovieFan Thanks. Does this look right?

No, the settings you are looking for are here: https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/online-media-sources

Set “Live TV” and “Movies & Shows” at least to “Disabled for Managed Users”.
(you need to be logged in with your own [server owner] user account)
A home user created here https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/plex-home is a so-called “managed user”.

If however the user account of your kid is a “full” plex.tv user account (i.e. one that has its own dedicated email and password) that you have invited into your Plex Home, then you cannot safely prescribe any account settings.
Because in this case the kid could at any time go to the Online Media Sources settings and re-enable them.

@OttoKerner Thanks; those were already set to disabled. Any other thoughts?

  1. did you “Switch User” on that client since you changed any of those settings?
  2. is the kid a managed user or a “full” account?

1- No, I haven’t switched users on the client. Just switch to mine and then back to theirs?

2- No, the account is a managed account, not a full plex user account.

  1. yes

In the Plex app on your iPad, access Settings → Advanced and reset the cache. Then close and reopen the app.

That didn’t work unfortunately; still has access to live tv.

What version of the app are you running? Settings -> About

I have an iPhone on version 2025.26.0. I have a managed for myself that I use in the event that I want an “uncluttered” Home Screen with Live TV (along with movies & shows, and Discover) specifically disabled and it works fine. (As it does across all my devices, including Roku, Android tablet, and Apple TV 4K.)

So it absolutely should work. The trick is going to be figuring out why it doesn’t work in your environment.

2025.26.0 (1279)

*Updated to 2025.27.0 (1288) and still not working correctly for me.

Update: deleted and recreated account, and it is working correctly in the web app player. If I try it from my iPhone 16 or the iPad (both running the same client version, but different OS versions), the live TV still shows up. The behavior is the same on both iOS devices. ios

Here’s a thought:
Your above screenshot shows that you are not using an age profile for that user, but are defining blacklists of age ratings.
Can you test with a new user which has been assigned an age profile?

Thanks; yes, I tried that when I deleted and recreated the account. I set the profile to “Younger Kid” and left all of the exclusions blank. On the web app player and roku app, the behavior is as expected: live tv is missing/disabled. On the iOS devices (iPhone 16 and iPad), live tv is still there. Tried clearing cache, restarting app, and switching back and forth between users, but no luck.
