Any update on this? Still can’t see anything with the new player. Also have a Phillips TV with Android 5
It looks like there is not so many reports
Bumping, I still have this issue as well
8.13.2.23227 client on the philips TV, but works fine on my MacBook Air.
Update to my update… 8.17.1.25326 seems to fix the black screen… awesome!
But still crashes when I exit out of videos
Can confirm that video plays fine now, tested with 8.18.1.25720.
BUT I also experience crashes after exiting said played video.
Update: Not all videos work only some. Crashes everytime you exit a video. The same with the latest version to date 8.19.0 and android 5.1 (Philips Smart TV)
Sorry for the delay, after replicating the crash can you grab and share the logs and I will take a look. Steps for fetching the logs are available here: Android, Android TV, Fire TV, Portal Logs | Plex Support
More than 40 DAYS without being able to play any single movie!!!
Return my 199€ that I paid for lifetime subscription.
IMPOSSIBLE to play anything on Android TV (via Fire Stick) neither in my Android phone
Can you provide logs? The old player no longer exists in the app so enabling it wouldn’t be possible. Steps for fetching the logs are available here: Android, Android TV, Fire TV, Portal Logs | Plex Support
I have activated “send logs an errors to plex” from the beggining
You need to send us logs from the device manually, they aren’t uploaded to us anymore. Crashes are recorded with the setting, but logs are kept private until you submit them to us. Steps for fetching them are available here: Android, Android TV, Fire TV, Portal Logs | Plex Support
No video only sound problem can be solved by going into settings choose passthrough and then OPTIC. Then uncheck AC3 in the optic codec setting. Volume though is much lower than normal so be aware when switching out of plex app. An extra option under settings for debug/experiment/really customize settings would be nice. This to help you debug bugs/new things etc.
It a little funny though, you change the SOUND setting to get the VIDEO to work, would be very interesting to know why is that?!
But!
For me crashes after exiting a video still is a problem even in v8.20.0.26605…. I will get the logs and share when I have some extra time later this week.
Here are my android tv logs for the crash and also for the black video screen issue
With the passthrough setting to OPTIC and also unchecked AC3 under optic codec.
Result, Video plays fine but audio volume is very low. When exiting from video Plex crashes.
logging_Passthroug_optic_with_unchecked_AC3.txt (1.0 MB)
With the passthrough setting to HDMI
Result. No video only black screen but audio plays fine. When exiting from video Plex crashes.
logging_passthrough_hdmi.txt (158.7 KB)
Would be great if the player could use the settings for video from the first and the audio from the second alternative from above.
PS. I have server logs for the above as well but prefer to send them in mail/pm if needed. (Running server version 1.23.5.4801 on Synology DS218play with DSM 7.0-41890)
Sixones!, I sent you an PM with these
PS2. I think the black screen may have somehing to do how eac3 is handled in ExoPlayer (priorities etc) but I could be very wrong. You can get the video working and the sound working (as eac3) but with different settings and not at the same time. This is just encoding and with the right predefined settings this should work?. Maybe a new device profile would easily fix this? I dont know if you do such specifics though…
We ask the device about its capabilities and then build the “profile” before we playback, its interesting that this issue only happens with AC3.
We could disable AC3 support on the device so it always use our software decoder for AC3, which sounds like it might solve the issue, though I’m confused on how / why this impacts video.
You could try this build to see if it makes any difference, ExoPlayer has been updated to the latest version so it might solve the issue if there was a problem configuring the codec: https://artifacts.plex.tv/android-experimental/8.21.0.26669-7c1b7060/PlexForAndroid-8.21.0.26669-7c1b7060-Armv7aGooglePlayStdExo.apk
…also the same result with that build
Videos using AC3 played fine when passthrough is set to hdmi but videos using eac3 doesn’t (black screen). So for me it looks more like it’s eac3 rather than ac3 that isn’t properly configured for exoplayer. Is there a way (build) that we can try where we trick exoplayer that both ac3 and eac3 are supported by the device, or a build with the forced software decoder so we can try that as well.
Or there maybe is a version that does more deeper logs so we can find the problem once and for all.
Could you see in the logs why the crashes happend?
Any news? It’s 2 months without the possibility to play my videos from WD My Cloud on PLEX Android TV (Firestick), neither in Android phone
That’s a different issue. We haven’t figured out what the problem is. A work-around for now is to turn off the security setting on the server.
In fact, must be something 100% error of Plex APP for Android TV / Firestick, because all the new files I charge in my Cloud Home Duo appear on Plex listings updated but I get always the same error when trying to play any movie and any TRAILER
Please don’t hijack this thread with a completely other issue. Do a quick search and you will find all the infomon on the wd my cloud bug.
The only way to play movies through plex normally on android tv thats i try it and its working.
1. Downgrade or replace plex version to 7.29
https://apk.gold/go.php?file_id=1328511&b=aHR0cHM6Ly9zcnYwMDIuYXBrLmdvbGQvc3RvcmFnZS84LzgwMC81ODAwL2FybWVhYmlfdjdhL1BsZXgtNy4yOS4yLjE2MDcxLmFwaz9zPWx6S3Zla1VkNHpvUFdsbFVCcXZaUlEmZT0xNjI4NTk5MjE1Jmxhbmc9ZW4mYXBrX2lkPTQ0OTM=
2. Disable the new player
- Open the Plex app on your Android TV device
- Navigate to and click on your login name on the left side of the screen
- Select settings
- Scroll down to Advanced
- Scroll to the right until you see the Enable new video player setting
- Click it and turn it off
I hope Plex team solve this problem as soon as possibly.
