How to display NFO or tag information?

I just installed Plex on my NAS for testing. But I am already frustrated not even started to test!

How can I display the information of my nfo files or the tag information of my mp4 files?
I have a very clean and sorted video library, I do not know why Plex has to show ugly thumbnail instead of using the available poster and information included in nfo file or mp4 tags? :frowning:

Plex doesn’t use .nfo files.

and it requires a certain style of naming and organising your files into folders, particularly for tv shows.

I have every film = mp4 or mkv file in a separate folder. And every folder includes the “filmname-poster.jpg”.
BUT sometimes Plex seems to use it and sometime not. Why?
I do not understand the logic. Especially in the cases Plex is not using the information.
Any ideas, why Plex is not using it?
How can I force Plex to use it always!

Still fighting with the first problem.
Next problem draws my attention. Why does Plex display all mp4 files two times? And all mkv files only once, like I would expect it?

Perhaps your mp4 videos have embedded ‘Album’ meta tags. If Plex stumbles upon those, it creates automatically a Collection, named after the content of the ‘Album’ tag.

This, too is Kodi-style.

What I am still trying to find out what is the difference between, the scanner

  1. “Plex Video File Scanner”
  2. “Plex Movie Scanner”
    Even so, I have only Movies (I do not watch or collect any TV series) I have a hit rate of roughly 70% with the “Plex Video File Scanner” and only roughly 40% with the “Plex Movie Scanner”.
    Why? From the title of the scanner the results make no sense.
    All my movies have a nfo file and filmname-poster.jpg in each single folder.

This is for generic videos. It is mostly used in a ‘Other Videos’ library.

This is for Movies. It allows to include local extras and trailers for the main movie to be included into Plex. As explained in: https://support.plex.tv/articles/200220677-local-media-assets-movies/

As I mentioned above, Plex doesn’t care about nfo files. And the syntax of Movie Title-poster.jpg is also not Plex, but Kodi.

I finally found out how to install “XBMCnfoMoviesImporter” and Plex displays my nfo files :slight_smile:

Now everything is like I want to have it! Plex is showing me, what I want to see. And NOT what a stupid software or software developer thinks I should see. I do not like this kind of dictation :wink:

Did XBMCnfoMoviesImporte enable Plex to show the correct audio format such as Atmos with your NFO files?

Yes, it shows for example “VIDEO SD (H.264)” and “TON Deutsch (AAC 5.1)”.
But I guess that this information comes from the NFO file and not native from Plex. So when you have wrong information in your NFO file it will display wrong information.

These informations come from Plex’s own media analysis, not from the metadata agents.
