How to format both IMDB ID and Editions in file name?

Server Version#:1.29.1.6316
Player Version#:1.55.0

When using both file naming conventions, are they combined into one pair of curly braces or are they each separated into their own pair of curly braces? There is no example that I can find in the support pages.

Movies/Blade Runner (1982)/Blade Runner (1982) {edition-Final Cut} {imdb-tt0083658}

OR

Movies/Blade Runner (1982)/Blade Runner (1982) {edition-Final Cut, imdb-tt0083658}

If there were a simple way to determine if Plex were using the imdb id and failing I would just test both use cases.

The first, in separate curly braces.

Use the wrong ID.

The ID takes precedence over the file name.

I mistyped an ID a couple weeks ago. Plex used the ID instead of the file name.

Thank you… I learned two new things!

For posterity, if you are using filebot to rename files here is a formula for the above naming format

{plex.derive {'.'+vf} {'.'+vc} {' {edition-'+tags.toString().replace('[','').replace(']','')+'}'} {' {imdb-'+imdbid+'}'}

That format produces the following filename:

Movies/Blade Runner (1982)/Blade Runner (1982).2160p.x265 {edition-Final Cut} {imdb-tt0083658}

Which uses the format Plex requires

You might want to encapsulate any data in sqare brackets, which are not used for matching (like resolution and codec).
i.e.
Movies/Blade Runner (1982)/Blade Runner (1982) [2160p.x265] {edition-Final Cut} {imdb-tt0083658}

Would be helpful if you could provide an answer…

That’s what I used to do, but according to the previously linked Help page that is no longer the convention. Unless the help page is in error? Or are they just saying that the filenames need to be somehow different so they don’t conflict?

Can I use Editions and Versions at the same time?

Absolutely. You’ll need to make sure that each of the versions of the edition have the appropriate file naming to specify that edition. You’ll want to make sure that you use the file naming method and not just edit the movie information in the web app. Example:

/Media
   /Movies
      /Blade Runner (1982)
         Blade Runner (1982).mp4
      /Blade Runner (1982) {edition-Director's Cut}
         Blade Runner (1982).1080p.h264 {edition-Director's Cut}.mp4
         Blade Runner (1982).1080p.hevc {edition-Director's Cut}.mkv
         Blade Runner (1982).4k.h264 {edition-Director's Cut}.mp4
         Blade Runner (1982).4k.hevc {edition-Director's Cut}.mkv

In the above example, there are two different editions of Blade Runner, the original release and then a “Director’s Cut” edition. The “Director’s Cut” has four different versions available: H.264 and HEVC encodings at both 1080p and 4K resolutions.
