Hi i just recently added a movie library to my plex server and as my server was generating the video preview thumbnails i restarted my computer and it is no longer generating the video preview thumbnails and i was wondering if there is a way to start the process up again or even just restart it completely.
I know it used to, but there’s a nasty rumor going around that it doesn’t work now. I haven’t been able to test that yet as I have the setting create thumbs when I add media AND during scheduled maintenance so… yea… they’re generated already.
IF ‘analyse’ no longer works, make the setting ‘when added and during maintenance’, then change the time of maintenance to ‘now’ - it should start.
Just as a further thought on this.
I’m now generating VP thumbs 24/7 for items added long ago that never had them created.
I find it bizarre that for shows they can be force generated by episode and by library and yet can’t be generated at season or show level.
But whatever…When they’re all done and they are just self-generating as new media is added I guess I won’t care about any past pains with it. (150GB and counting so far. )
It still chokes on anything that has had a past attempt and failure.
I have Plex-Danced the whole of Season 2 of American Gods several times. Every single time it throws up the BIF failure when Plex finds the season again and starts generating. (I actually tried with the Remux copy of the season from two different release groups.)
I have a handful of movies that exhibit the same behavior when Plex-Danced.
I did suspect it could be caused by corrupt files, yet that season of American Gods and the movies in question all playback just fine in (even in direct play.)
I’m gonna let them generate for the whole server and then grab the logs for the various failures when all that’s done. When that time comes would I need verbose logging on?
