HDHomeRun has closed captioning on live broadcasts, but I can’t turn on Closed Captioning when when playing live tuner broadcasts through Plex. Are they being stripped out? Does anyone have a method to get closed captioning on live broadcasts?
On what device? On the WebApp (app.plex.tv) you just hit the 2 slider button on the bottom right (2 horizontal lines with circles on each) and choose the Subtitles drop down (in my case because I’m on an antenna OTA with my HDHR’s) it says "Unknown Closed Captions).
I’m using the Plex app on android. When I play a recorded file, I have that option, but not when playing a station live from the guide.
I checked using a browser and that option does appear, but not in the Android App. However, when the captioning is turned on for a live channel, I wind up with severe buffering. I tried the Amazon fire stick and also found the caption option appears there, but the video only plays smooth with captioning turned off. Turn it on and you have nothing but buffering. I’m running Plex on a QNAP TS-253D. It’s the only thing running on the NAS but it sure seems the captioning is slowing down the output stream.
This problem is only for live video. Recorded video plays with captions just fine.
