I have an NVIDA Shield Pro 2017 and PMS 1.7.4.4017 which appears to be the latest public release.
It’s working fine; however, I have Live TV and DVR configured with the Hauppauge WinTV-dual tuner and there’s no time-shifting feature until PMS 1.8.
Over 24 hours ago I joined the beta/preview program following the instructions on the Plex FAQ and when I go back to that page it states “You are a tester”. On Google Play Store on my Shield no available update appears. When I log into Play Store from a computer, it lists the current GA version (1.7.4.4017) and shows Installed. From what I had read in some comments, it should show as an update on the Shield within hours, or worst case you have to force the update from a computer. Seems I don’t have either option available. Note: I do have my Update Channel set to Plex Pass in the Server Settings.
Is there something else I need to do to get the beta 1.8? My initial reason for going with the Shield was to ditch my TiVo OTA and TiVo Mini along with the ridiculous monthly or annual fee for the guide service, and have the Shield serve as my all-in-one media/streaming device in my living room. So far, so good EXCEPT that we want time-shifting of Live TV. I’m willing to bide my time until Live TV support comes for Fire TV and Roku devices so we can watch Live TV across our home, and an actual grid style TV guide, but we really miss the time-shifting capabilities of TiVo. Even the built-in Live Channels app on the Shield supports live TV with time-shifting, DVR recordings, a REAL channel guide, etc. The primary advantage with Plex is it being a central app for local media and OTA TV, along with the better UI and the advanced DVR options.

This is strange. For me, it was instantaneous. I opened Google play app and the update was there.
Are you sure you signed up for the server, not the client?
There was no option to sign up for the client vs PMS. I followed the instructions on the Plex FAQ to sign up for the PMS beta, and the signup page shows I am a “tester”. I see no way to install the 1.8 beta version, or any other version for that matter.
As I already stated, when I log into the Google Play Store and go to Apps, all I see under PMS is the current public version. There is no other version or option listed.
you need to do it on your shield, not your phone. the site where you sign up is a generic message from Google probably never changed since shield was created.
Google PlayStore>My Apps
I am already updated so it doesn’t show but this is where you will see updates available
The Plex app listed in the Google Play Store on the Shield shows it was recently updated to 6.3.4.1485 on Aug 11. This seems to be PMP, there’s no PMS listed here. With the latest Plex update on the Shield I still do not have time shifting ability. How do I check the PMS version on the Shield, force an update, or is there some way to uninstall and reinstall?
that is the player not the server. there should be a separate listing for the server under “installed apps”. do not uninstall it.
this really doesn’t make any sense there is nothing special about this process. when you go here on you computers browser. the avatar on top right is for the same account that you are signed into the Google Play store on the shield correct? ( this process has nothing to do with your plex account )
@BigWheel I appreciate your responses and help. I am 99% sure it’s the same Google account, but will confirm when I get home and also check the PMS version under installed apps. I agree, it doesn’t make sense as I understand the update should be listed in the Play Store on the Shield, but it isn’t.
Well, I’m honestly not exactly sure what happened or why, but it finally worked. I know I was logged in to the Play Store with the same account because I could see PMS listed as installed (green button) and the compatible device listed showed NVIDIA Shield TV. I do have 3 Google accounts (for email) so I signed out of everything, then made sure I logged back in with only the one used for the Shield. Went to the PMS app listing and there it was, PMS (beta). I pushed it to the Shield and a few min later it was updated.
