How to get the same show to appear in two libraries: DVR version and DVD version

I have two Plex libraries: TV Shows (DVD rips) and TV Shows - DVR (DVR recordings), each has it’s own folder on separate hard drives M:Media/Shows and W:DVR/Shows respectively.

Now, I have 3 seasons of Modern Family on DVD but I’ve also been recording episodes over-the-air, so I have a folder for Modern family in each of my “Shows” folders. I know I am getting duplicate files this way, but I like to keep my ripped content separate from my DVR content for quality reasons.

However,

  • Within my TV Shows - DVR library there is NO card for Modern Family.
  • Within my TV Shows library there IS a card for Modern Family (containing a mix of seasons/episodes from both M: and W: drives.

I’ve looked at the settings of each library and have confirmed that:

  • TV Shows - DVR only maps to W:DVR/Shows
  • TV Shows only maps to M:Media/Shows

Questions:

  • How is it that Plex is ignoring my libraries’ folder settings and scanning for files in different directories?
  • Why doesn’t Plex display Modern Family in both libraries: TV Shows and TV Shows - DVR?
  • Can I fix this? And if so, how?

Would you mind sharing a sample of the exact paths and which directories are mapped to the two libraries respectively?

Another strange oddity is that Modern Family in the TV Shows library (DVD library) displays 9 seasons:

If I click on one of the DVR seasons (e.g. Season 6), Plex can’t find any episodes:

Yet the files are there, just in the W: drive instead of the M: drive:

Did you previously have both folders assigned to the same library?
Does this behavior persist after you scan the library?

No, these libraries have only ever been assigned to their companion folders, never has there been a cross-contamination.

Yes, this issue persists even after scanning, I’ve tried that several times.

I’ve deleted both libraries and then recreated them and so far everything appears as I’d expect. Neither library is looking in the wrong directory and there is a separate page for each respective Modern Family collection. So far so good :crossed_fingers:
