How to install PLEX Media PLAYER on my PC

I have my PLEX Media SERVER installed and functioning on a dedicated media server PC. (Let’s call this Media Server PC.

I now wish to install a PLEX Media PLAYER on my desktop PC. In addition, I plan to advise some family members on installing a PLEX Media PLAYER on their PCs (in remote locations). I plan to provide them access to my streaming programs.

How do I install a PLEX Media PLAYER on my desktop PC? I go to the PLEX website and follow my nose to what would seem to be a button to download a PLEX Media Player, but the app that is subsequently installed on my desktop PC looks identical the the PLEX Media SERVER on my Media Server PC. It seems to have all the functionality of a full-fledged PLEX Media Server, when I want its functionality to be limited to what a my TV PLEX Players, and my iPad PLEX Players allow me to do.

This is of concern to me because it I point my family members to the wrong app, they might foul up my PLEX installation.

What am I doing wrong?

Please advise.

Plex for Windows/Mac/Other is NOT Plex Media Player, but this is:

You’ll always find the latest version in that thread - and I agree that for a thing they are still supporting - finding it does leave something to be desired - like a link right along side Plex Player.

It does indeed look like the regular web app.
And if you are signing it into your plex.tv account, you will also be able to administrate your server with it.

However, if you are signing in with a different plex.tv account (one to which you have shared your server), then you can only play media but not change anything on your server.

TL;DR: your family members need to use different plex.tv accounts than you.
