How to manage TV show's advanced properties when there are no episodes?

Server Version#: 3.108.2

OK, this is an odd one.

If I have a TV Show setup to delete episodes after one day (which works perfectly), but I want to change it to after one week, how would I do that if there are no episodes currently in the TV Show’s folders?

The issue is now that fall is here, all the shows are coming back and I have a bunch that I used to set to delete after one day, but I want to be able to change that to after one week or even never.
My problem is I forget about the setting before/after I watch a show and then when I notice the show is no longer on disk, the show is also not available in Plex any more since the episodes are gone.

Short of adding an episode back in to the show’s folder and then re-scanning, is there another way to edit the show even if there is no files? I am comfortable editing the db if there is a quick way to find all the auto-delete shows and make the edits at that level.

Anyway…
Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

You can do this by modifying the recording settings of the show. In the web UI, click on “Recordings” on the left-hand side to view your recording schedule. In the “RECORDING PRIORITY” column on the right, select the show you wish to modify and then click “Show Advanced” at the bottom-left. Scroll down until you find “DELETE EPISODES AFTER PLAYING.”

These instructions are for the old web UI (which it appears you are using). They are slightly different in the new one, where the “RECORDING PRIORITY” list is now under Live TV & DVR -> DVR Schedule.

Thanks for the reply, but I guess I should have been a little more clear.
This isn’t for Plex DVR’d items. Its for a standard TV library.

These are for files that I add to the monitored path using other methods (DVD/BR rips or other DVR software) so the native Plex DVR functions will not apply here.

But thanks for the tip on the DVR functionality. Its good to know if I ever migrate my DVR stuff into Plex.

No, there isn’t a way to do this. If a show doesn’t exist in Plex, you can’t change it’s settings. You’ll need to wait until you add at least 1 episode for the show to be seen so you can change it’s settings.

I figured as much.

I was just hoping that since Plex does remember that setting it was still in the db and that there would be a way to see the shows that aren’t currently populated.

Adding a show temporarily is what I am doing, so that will have to suffice.

Thanks again.

The setting is still in the DB, but there is no UI to edit that. You could edit the database directly, but that’s not something we advice or support.

@pshanew

Understood.

I found the setting in the db and bulk changed them. It worked great. I’d just prefer not to have to go about it that way, but it is what it is.

Thanks again!
