How do I tell which version of the server software is running on my Drobo. I have followed the install instructions but see no easy way to tell if it has been successful? Thanks in advance
1.) Open up Plex App (on desktop)
2.) In the top right corner, click on āsettingsā
3.) Select āServerā tab to access Server Settings
4.) Right near the top it will list the servers current version, just below your login information.
Note- Cannot be done (that Iāve found) on mobile devices.
Can also confirm these steps work (Drobo 5N, firmware 3.3.0)
- Open Plex Server in browser.
- Click on link to download tgz file.
- Open Drobo Dashboard and stop Plex app.
- Log into //DroboApps share as described above.
- Copy tgz file to //DroboApps folder (not the Plex folder under DroboApps.)
- Restart the Drobo.
- Wait.
- Restart Plex.
- Do NOT use Plex update button in Drobo Dashboard.

How long do you have to wait (step 7)? This used to always work instantly for me but since 3.3.0 Iāve waited over 24 hours and it still will not upgrade.
24hours? Woah
I canāt update now since an update for Drobo5n was released.
Place the file where it should, command a reboot and nothing, the file sits there where as before it would disappear
Update works for me, however once updated it fails to start automatically when the Drobo is restarted and it is easy to accidentally āupdateā back to the old version⦠any ETA on getting the Drobo app store updated with the new version?
Really, do you still place the files in \\DroboApps ?
I put the update there and nothing when rebooting the nas

For me, it updated fine. Were you trying a clean install, or an update?
I connected to afp://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/DroboApps and copied over the plex.tgz. Restarted the Drobo 5n and it installed. However, it did NOT start. I had to then go to the apps controls in Drobo Dashboard to start the Plex server. This is required every time the Drobo is restarted with the updated Plex. Whatās more, if you click āupdateā while in the apps control panel in Drobo Dashboard, it will downgrade to the version of Plex currently on the app store.
Given the trials and tribulations of applying the update manually, let me ask this⦠what does it actually do for us? Is there really a down-side to not upgrading?
Iām trying to update, never had an issue with it and never used the update button via the Drobo Dashboard because its so out of date.
Until the recent Drobo firmware update worked fine, now its simply ignoring the files in DroboApps

Anyone? Still not found anything that tells us why we should upgrade. Itās not like we can use the new transcoder etcā¦
Iāve copied the plex.tgz to the Droboapps folder and rebooted to update Plex dozens of times and itās always been successful. But now my Drobo 5N ( with updated firmware: 3.3.0 [8.75.76511]) does not update the Plex software using this process. I am trying to update to Plex Version 0.9.12.16 from 0.9.12.13. Sounds like Iām not the only one having this issue but would really like a way to apply the new version of Plex to my Drobo.
Ok so its more of a Drobo issue then
kujako https://plex.tv/downloads/1/archive tells you previous changes, the majority will be bug fixes, any major releases tend to get a blog post.
Ooh http://www.drobospace.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=144925 might have a fix, will try that now
Right that worked!! Must be to do with changes on the user PlexApps run under

Try this: delete the file ā/mnt/DroboFS/Shares/DroboApps/.servicercā. This is a hidden file, so you might have some trouble finding it.ā

But what version is in the Drobo app-store VS the most current release we can manually install?
Deleting DroboApps/.servicerc worked for me. Thank you!

Iām not sure, Iāve always manually updated it. I havenāt got another Drobo to test on but when I first got my Drobo last year it was a few months of releases behind.
I canāt even tell from the dashboard and nothing on the Drobo site ![]()

Looks like we can get the version of the server from the web interface. Current official Drobo version of Plex is 0.9.12.11. Not seeing much in the list of changes from that to 0.9.12.13 to make me want to upgrade⦠only reason I can come up with is if youāre having sync issues, then perhaps the 0.0.0.2 sub-version update may fix things.
I canāt get this to update at all. I coy over the .tar file, rebootā¦and nothing.
I have managed to get the updated Plex to install, but now the Drobo Apps wonāt let the plex app start.
I am beyond frustrated at this point. Iām not sure which is the culprit, drobo or plea
